Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Pirelli Stadium will host Tuesday’s League One game between Burton and Portsmouth. The Brewers do not seem to be at their sharpest ahead of the midweek clash, with the team losing to both Crewe and Lincoln in the previous two league fixtures. Burton aim to put an end to their five-game winless run, but this match will be anything but a walk in the park for the hosts. Michael Mancienne remains on the sidelines through injury, while Charlie Lakin returns from suspension.
The Pompey, on the other hand, have been performing below expectations in the 2021/2022 League One campaign. Portsmouth failed to win the previous six league fixtures, and, as a result, they dropped to 10th position in the standings. Since both sides are eager to return to winning ways, we are tempted to put our money on both teams to score. Connor Ogvlie is back to contention for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Ryan Edwards):
Despite being born in Singapore on November 17, 1993, Ryan Edwards is eligible to represent Australia in international matches. The 175-cm-tall midfielder has 18 caps with Australia U-23 and it has to be noted that he played for the Socceroos at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Speaking of his club career, Edwards is a product of AIS, the high performance sports training institution from Australia, but in 2011 he was spotted by Reading scouts.
Ryan Edwards played for the Royals at senior level, making seven appearances for the club in the league. The Australian international whore Perth Glory (loan), St. Mirren (loan), Partick Thistle and Heart of Midlothian shirts as well before signing a deal with Burton Albion in 2019.
He made his debut with the Brewers in the League One on August 3, 2019 in a 1-0 loss to Ipswich Town. His main position is attacking midfielder, but he is capable of producing fine performances at both central and right midfield as well.
Highlighted Team (Portsmouth):
During Milan Mandaric’s era at the club, Portsmouth played an important role in the Premier League, with the team finishing their debut season (2003/2004) in the 13th position in the standings. The club impressed in the 2008/2009 season, with Nwankwo Kanu’s goal helping them beat Cardiff City in the FA Cup final.
As a result, Portsmouth represented England in the Europa League, with the team progressing in the group stages of the competition thanks to a win over Vitoria Gimaraes in the final qualifying round. The current club was formed in 2013, but the original amateur club was founded back in 1883. Nowadays Portsmouth host their rivals at Fratton Park, with the venue holding up to 20,620 spectators.
The likes of Sol Campbell, David James, Glen Johnson and aforementioned Nigeria international Nwankwo Kanu are considered one of the club’s most notable players. Portsmouth wear blue shirts, white shorts and red socks when hosting their rivals at Fratton Park, while wearing white and blue colours when playing on the road.
