Our prediction for this Segunda Division match:
Real Oviedo and Sporting Gijon face each other at Estadio Nuevo Carlos Tartiere in what is expected to be one of the most entertaining games of Saturday’s program. Los Azules have been playing some low-scoring games of late, with the team keeping three clean sheets in the previous four league fixtures, and they will continue to rely on their rock-solid defence against Gijon. Ghana international Samuel Obeng misses the game through suspension.
Los Rojiblancos, on the other hand, head into the match following a 1-1 draw with Amorebieta. Sporting Gijon, are not regarded as good travelers, and, taking everything into account, we are unlikely to see goals galore at Estadio Nuevo Carlos Tartiere. You should know that under 2.5 goals have been netted in each of the previous five meetings between the two teams in the Spanish second tier. A man to watch in the away team will be Serbia-born attacker Uros Djurdjevic, who plays for the Montenegro national team.
Highlighted Player (Alejandro Arribas ):
Born in Madrid, Spain on May 1, 1989, Alejandro Arribas is a Spanish footballer who plays for Real Oviedo in La Liga 2. Arribas is a very experienced defender as he played for Primera Division sides Rayo Vallecano, Osasuna, Deportivo La Coruna and Sevilla in the past.
He is a product of Rayo Majadahonda football school, but he did not see any game action with the club at senior level. Alejandro Arribas played for Mexican club UNAM before signing a three-year deal with Real Oviedo in the summer of 2019.
He made his debut with los Azules in a 2-1 loss to Fuenlabrada on August 31, 2019. The towering defender has never received a call-up for the Spain national football team. His main position is centre-back, but he can be used as a right-back as well if needed. The right-footed footballer has a contract with Real Oviedo until June 30, 2021.
Highlighted Team (Gijon):
Sporting Gijon are a Spanish football club that competes in La Liga. Sporting Gijon’s home ground is El Molinon, the stadium that was built in 1908. El Molinon is the oldest football field in Spain and the capacity of the stadium is 30,000. Sporting Gijon’s home kit is red and white and the club’s main rivals are Real Oviedo.
The two teams take on each other in the Asturian derby. Sporting Gijon did remarkably well to finish the 1978/1979 La Liga campaign in second position in the standings and that is considered the club’s biggest success. Los Rojiblancos were runners-up in Spanish Copa Del Rey in 1981 and 1982, but they have yet to win the Spanish Cup.
The club was founded in 1905 and the club’s original name was Sporting Gijones. Sporting Gijon participated in the UEFA Cup on six occasions, but they did not record a good result in the European competition.
