Our prediction for this Serie B match:
Spal and Benevento square off against each other at Stadio Paolo Mazza in the Serie B round 19. The Gli Spallini suffered a dip in form, with the team losing to both Brescia and Frosinone in the previous two league fixtures, and, no doubt, they are low on spirits ahead of the Boxing Day clash. Head coach Pep Clotet should opt to make changes to the starting XI, with all Crociata, D’Orazio, and Heidenreich pushing for a start.
Benevento, on the other hand, aim to make amends for the Coppa Italia defeat to Fiorentina. The Giallorossi are on a four-game winning run in the Serie B, and given Spal’s shaky defence, we believe that there is a big value in betting on the promotion-chasing visitors. Midfielder Mattia Viviani serves a one-game ban, while both Gaetano Letizia and Daam Foulon should miss out with injuries for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Alberto Pomini):
Alberto Pomini is a 185-cm-tall goalkeeper who played for Verona during his youth career. In 2001 he moved to San Marino and he made 17 league appearances for the club in the Serie C2. At the end of the season he signed a deal with Bellaria and after playing 20 games for the club, he moved to Sassuolo in 2004.
Pomini played for the Neroverdi in the Serie C2 back then, but the club have been making progress year by year. Sassuolo are currently playing in the Italian top flight, but it has to be noted that Pomini did not see any game action in the 2015/2016 Serie A campaign. The Italian goalkeeper wore No. 17 on his shirt between 2008 and 2012, but following Davide Bassi’s departure he received number 1 shirt.
Alberto Pomini was born in Isola della Scala, Italy on 17 March, 1981. He has a contract with Sassuolo which expires at the end of the 2016/2017 Serie A campaign. His agent is Danilo Caravello.
Highlighted Team (Benevento):
FC Benevento secured promotion to the Serie A for the first time in their history at the end of the 2016/2017 campaign, but it has to be noted that they finished the regular season in 5th place in the standings. The Stregoni (Witches) did well to beat Perugia and Carpi in the promotion play-offs and, as a result, they are going to taste a top-flight football.
Benevento were founded in 1929 as Associazione Calcio Benevento and back then they played their home games at Meomartini, the venue which was built by Ciccio Minocchia. Nowadays, the Stregoni welcome their rivals at Stadio Giro Vigorito and the capacity of the stadium is 12.847. Benevento are well known for their yellow jerseys with red stripes, whilst they wear white shirts and white shorts when playing on the travels.
After Napoli, Salernitana and Avellino Benevento become the fourth club from Campania to compete in the Serie A. Matches between the aforementioned teams are well known as Campania derbies.
