Our prediction for this EFL Cup match:
A spot in the EFL Cup final will be at stake when Tottenham and Chelsea face each other in a highly-expected London derby. Chelsea aim to defend their two-goal lead, and they are likely to adopt a defence-minded approach in the second leg. Both Ben Chilwell and Reece James are sidelined with injuries, while both Kante and Silva have been tested positive for coronavirus. Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is on international duty with Senegal.
Spurs, on the other hand, have no other choice but to go all guns blazing at Thomas Tuchel’s troops. Korea international Son is sidelined with injury, while Dutch winger Bergwijn is a major doubt. As always, Harry Kane will lead the line for the hosts. Anyhow, both teams to score betting option should be considered as Romelu Lukaku and Co. will have a number of opportunities to score on the break.
Highlighted Player (Harry Kane):
Widely regarded as one of England’s best strikers at the moment, Harry Kane enjoyed a meteoric rise at Tottenham Hotspur, scoring 21 Premier League goals during the 2014/2015 campaign to be voted PFA Young Player of the Year.
The highly rated striker went on to surpass that achievement the following season as he helped Tottenham Hotspur mount a serious title challenge for the first time in club’s recent history and he made seamless transition to international football. Kane scored four goals in his first ten appearances for England to prove he was here to stay and at the same time established himself as a first choice striker in Roy Hodgson’s squad ahead of the Euro 2016 finals.
Kane is a modern striker, who is extremely dangerous in the opposition box, but it was some outstanding goals from distance as well as link-up play with teammates that earned him an excellent reputation in world football. Kane is expected to lead both Tottenham and England in years to come, that is if he can resist the lure of top European clubs that continue to cast admiring glances his way.
Highlighted Team (Chelsea):
Over the years Chelsea have established themselves as one of the dominant forces in the English Premier League. Roberto Di Matteo helped the team win their first ever Champions League trophy (2011/2012), but it has to be noted that they were more than fortunate to beat Bayern Munich in the title game.
Chelsea have been playing at Stamford Bridge since 1876 and they are a real force to be reckoned with at home. The Blues have won seven FA Cups, five League Cups, two UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups and the UEFA Europa League. Rafael Benitez was in charge of the team that faced Benfica in the 2012/2013 Europa League final, with Branislav Ivanovic scoring the winner for the Blues in the title clash.
After lifting the 2014/2015 Premier League trophy, the Blues largely struggled in the next campaign, which saw Jose Mourinho’s second spell with the club come to an end, and Antoine Conte went over to take the reigns for the 2016/2017 season.
