Our prediction for this Championship match:
All eyes will be on the Hawthorns when WBA and Blackburn go head to head in the Championship derby. The Baggies aim to put an end to their three-match losing run, and they are likely to go all guns blazing at the Riversiders. Jake Livermore is sidelined through suspension, while all Daryl Dike, Robert Snodgrass, and Kean Bryan are out of contention with injuries.
Blackburn, on the other hand, head into the match following back-to-back losses to Swansea and Nottingham, and seeing that they will go for a win in Monday’s clash as well, both teams to score betting option should be considered. Midfielder Darragh Lenihan serves a one-match ban, while all Tayo Edun, Harry Pickering, Ian Poveda, and Bradley Dack should miss out with injuries. In their last meeting at the venue WBA recorded a 3-2 win over Blackburn.
Highlighted Player (Callum Robinson):
Born in Northampton, Callum Robinson started his career at Aston Villa. Having gone through the youth ranks with the Villans, Robinson was given his first-team debut in 2013. As a product of the Aston Villa academy, Robinson unfortunately never got a chance to prove his worth at the club and ended up playing no less than 4 league appearances during his three-year stay at Villa Park.
Various loan spells – at Preston North End on two occasions and Bristol City – brought mixed fortunes for the striker up until 2016 when he sealed a permanent move with the Lillywhites. Robinson represented England at U16, U17, U19 and U20 levels but raised plenty of eyebrows when he declared for the Republic of Ireland in March 2018 through his late grandmother who was from Monaghan.
The striker made his senior team breakthrough in Republic of Ireland’s 2-2 draw with Celtic in Scott Brown’s testimonial match and will be hoping to prove doubters wrong and prove his motive is bigger than career opportunism.
Highlighted Team (Blackburn Rovers):
Blackburn Rovers have been trying to return to the Premier League ever since they dropped to the Championship in 2012. The Riversiders compete in the English second tier and they play their home games at Ewood Park. Blackburn were founded back in 1875 and they are one of the founding members of the Football League (1888).
Burnley are considered Blackburn’s main rivals and the two teams square off against each other in the East Lancashire derby. It has to be noted that Blackburn Burnley 7-1 in their first ever meeting in the East Lancashire Derby on 3 November, 1888. The Riversiders have won three First Division (Premier League) trophies (1911/1912, 1913/1914, 1994/1995).
Blackburn Rovers have clinched six FA Cup titles as well. Speaking of the club’s European success, the Riversiders won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2007. The colour of Blackburn’s home kit is blue and white.
