Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Buoyed by a 2-1 win over Lincoln, Rotherham United will be aiming to cement top position in the standings when they host Shrewsbury Town to their Aesseal New York Stadium. The Millers did well to put an end to their three-game winless run, with the team regaining a much-needed confidence. The league leaders are eyeing their 14th home win of the process, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. Both Freddie Ladapo and William Grigg are sidelined with injuries, while Jamie Lindsay is a major doubt.
The Shrews, on the other hand, moved one step closer to securing the League One survival thanks to a thrilling 5-0 win over Morecambe. Anyhow, home win should be considered as Rotherham have turned their Aesseal New York Stadium into a real fortress. David Davis should be the only absentee in the away team.
Highlighted Player (Josh Vickers):
A product of Arsenal's youth academy, Josh Vickers, is an English footballer who plays for League One Club Lincoln City. The 6ft 2-inch goalkeeper's first appearance came for Isthmian League outfit Canvey Island having joined them on loan in August 2013. He went on to play over 30 games for the club before returning to Arsenal to sign his first professional contract.
His time at the Gunners was shortlived, however, and involved another loan to Conference South club Concord Rangers before making a permanent switch to Premier League side Swansea City in August 2015 on a two-year contract. In his time at Swansea, Vickers made zero appearances for the first team but did feature in the club's under-18 and under-23 team.
Vickers spent his 2016/2017 season on loan to Barnet, where he made his League One debut against Cambridge United on the 6th of August, 2016. Born on the 1st of December, 1995, the 23-year-old has featured 47 times for his current club Lincoln, on a contract that expires on the 30th of June, 2020.
Highlighted Team (Shrewsbury):
Based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, Shrewsbury Town are a professional club that play home games at New Meadow stadium, the venue which was opened in 2007 and has the capacity of 10,361. Shrewsbury Town were founded back in 1886, with some reports indicating the club was established at the Lion Hotel.
The Blues wear blue shirts with yellow stripe and blue shorts when playing at home, whilst the colour of their away kit is purple. Mickey Brown holds the club record for most appearances as he played 190 games for the club, scoring 9 goals in the league. Both Wolverhampton and Walsall are regarded as the club’s fiercest rivals, but there have always been fireworks in matches between Shrewsbury Town and Hereford United as well.
The two teams face each other in the “A49 derby” and it has to be noted that the Blues have built rivalries with Chester City and Wrexham as well.
