Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
Portugal face Ghana at Stadium 974 in Doha in the opening match of their World Cup campaign. A Selecao did well to crush Nigeria in their last warm-up match, and they must be brimming with confidence ahead of Thursday’s showdown. Cristiano Ronaldo missed the Nigeria friendly with gastroenteritis, but the Man Utd star should recover in time to face the Black Stars. Yet another man to watch in the home team will be Man City ace Bernardo Silva, who has 73 caps for the Portugal national team.
The African side, on the other hand, are boosted by Inaki Williams’ decision to represent them on the international stage. Jojo Wollacott has been ruled out with a finger injury. Anyhow, Portugal boss Fernando Santos has a number of top-class players to choose from, and we believe that there is a big value in betting on Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. In their only previous meeting at the major tournament A Selecao defeated the Black Stars 2-1, back in 2014.
Highlighted Player (Cristiano Ronaldo):
Cristiano Ronaldo is considered one of the world’s best football players. The Portuguese ace was born on 5 February, 1985 in Funchal, Madeira and he played for the likes of Andorinha, Nacional and Sporting during his youth career. CR7 made his Sporting debut in Primeira Liga on 7 October, 2002, scoring two goals in a 3-0 win over Moreirense.
Manchester United scouts spotted him and one year later he joined the Old Trafford outfit. Ronaldo became the most expensive teenager in the history of the Premier League and he received the number 7 shirt. He quickly established himself as the team’s key player and it has to be noted that he won three consecutive Premier League trophies with the Red Devils (2006/2007, 2007/2008, 2008/2009). In 2008 he helped the Old Trafford outfit beat Chelsea in the Champions League final, scoring for Alex Ferguson’s troops in the regular time.
Ronaldo joined Real Madrid in 2009 and he helped the Spanish giants with two Champions League trophies. In 2016 he won the European Championship trophy with Portugal. The Real Madrid ace has two Golden Ball awards (2013, 2014).
Highlighted Team (Ghana):
Ghana are an African football team administered by Ghana Football Association. The Black Stars made their first ever appearances at the World Cup finals in 2006 and they were grouped with the likes of Italy, Czech Republic and United States. Ghana booked their place in the last 16, but they were outclassed by Brazil in the knockout stages of the showpiece tournament.
In 2010 the Ghanaians did remarkably well to make it to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup and it has to be noted that they were more than unfortunate not to eliminate Uruguay in the knockout stages of the tournament in South Africa.
The likes of Asamoah Gyan, Richard Kingson, John Paintsil, Emmanuel Agymang-Badu, Sulley Muntari, John Mensah, Andre Ayew, Kwadwo Asamoah, Harrison Afful and Abedi Pele are Ghana’s most capped players, but, no doubt, Michael Essien is the most famous footballer who played for the Black Stars. The Ghanaians play their home games in white shirts, while the colour of the team’s away kit is red.
