Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Following a 1-1 draw with Derby County, MK Dons will look to escape the danger zone when they welcome Cheltenham to their Stadium MK on Saturday. The Dons have drawn each of their last three league matches, and, as a result, they are only four points clear of bottom four ahead of the visit of Cheltenham. Conor Grant is pushing for a start, with Jonathan Leko likely to drop to the bench.
The Robins, on the other hand, aim to put an end to their four-game winless run. Since the relegation-threatened hosts want this win more than the visitors, we are tempted to put our money on Mark Jackson’s charges. There are no fresh injury worries in the away team, but Taylor Perry could sneak into the starting XI. In the first half of the season the two teams played out a goalless draw.
Highlighted Player (Will Grigg):
Wighan Athletic striker Will Grigg became a viral sensation during the European Championship in France but the chances are any avid football fan will have been well aware of his goalscoring exploits even before 2016. The 27-year-old forward began his career at Stratford Town but it was in Walsall that the world took notice of his presence after 27 goals in 99 performances for the club.
He first came to prominence during the 2012/13 season when he was voted the club’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season, but a loan spell at Milton Keynes Dons during his rather unfortunate two-year spell over at Brentford proved crucial for his career.
The total of 20 goals in 44 appearances at Stadium MK was where Wigan Athletic noticed the Northern Ireland man and moved in to sign him on a three year contract for a £1 million fee in 2015. ‘Will Grigg’s on Fire’ was the hit song of the Euro 2016 even though the Northern Ireland striker ended up not getting a chance to make a bow in the tournament.
Highlighted Team (Cheltenham):
Founded in 1887 by a local teacher Albert Close White, Cheltenham Town are an English club that compete in League Two. The Robins wear white jerseys with red stripes and white shorts when playing at home, while sky blue is the dominant colour of their away kit.
Cheltenham Town clinched the FA Trophy in 1998, with the team defeating Southport 1-0 in the title game. The match was played at Wembley Stadium in front of 26,837 spectators, with John Eaton scoring the only goal of the match. The Robins have won Leamington Hospital Cup, Midland Floodlit Cup, Gloucestershire Senior Cup, Cheltenham League and Gloucestershire Senior Amateur North Challenge Cup as well.
The likes of Gloucester City and Hereford are seen as Cheltenham’s traditional rivals, while, in more recent years, Forest Green Rovers have been the club’s main rivals. A 12-0 win over Chippenham Rovers (November 2, 1935), with the team suffering their biggest defeat against Tydfil (1-10) on March 8, 1952.
