Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
AZ Alkmaar will be aiming to build on a 3-0 win over Fortuna Sittard when they take on Anderlecht in the Conference League quarter-finals return leg. Since AZ need a big win in the reverse fixture, we are positive that they will go all guns blazing at the Jupiler League outfit. All Dekker, Karlsson, Martins Indi, Westerveld, and de Wit should miss out with injuries, while both Riechedly Bazoer and Milos Kerkez are one yellow card away from suspension.
Anderlecht, on the other hand, experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 5-2 loss to Genk, and seeing that they often struggle on the road in European competitions, we are tempted to put our money on AZ Alkmaar. Yari Verschaeren and Adrien Trebel should be the only absentees in the visiting team. January signing Islam Slimani is widely expected to lead the line for the Belgian outfit.
Highlighted Player (Jordy Clasie):
Jordy Clasie is a product of the Feyenoord youth academy who plays for AZ Alkmaar as a midfielder. His main position is defensive midfield, but he is capable of producing fine displays as both central midfielder and centre-back as well.
Clasie played for the likes of Feyenoord, Excelsior (loan), Southampton, and Club Brugge (loan) before returning to Rotterdam. After ending his second spell with Feyenoord, the Dutch footballer joined AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2019. He made his AZ debut in the Eredivisie on August 4, 2019 in a 4-0 win over Fortuna Sittard.
Jordie Clasie has 12 caps with the Netherlands U21 team, and he made his senior debut in a 1-1 draw with Italy on February 6, 2013. Thanks to his elegant style of play, Clasie has earned the nickname of “Dutch Xavi”. The AZ Alkmaar midfielder was born in Haarlem, Netherlands on June 27, 1991.
Highlighted Team (Anderlecht):
Founded on 27 May, 1908, Anderlecht are considered one of the oldest clubs in Belgium. The Paars-wit are the dominant force in the Belgian Pro League and in 2014 they won their 33rd domestic trophy. Anderlecht did remarkably well to win the UEFA Super Cup title in 1983, with the team defeating Benfica in the final of the competition.
The Belgian outfit recorded a 1-0 over the Eagles in the first leg, with the two teams playing out a 1-1 draw in the return leg. Anderlecht play their home games at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, the venue that was opened in 1917. The stadium was renovated in 1983 and current capacity of Anderlecht’s home ground is 28 063.
The Paars-wit have long-standing rivalries with the likes of Standard Liege and Club Brugge, whilst FC Brussels were considered the club’s bitter opponents in the past. The likes of Besnik Hasi, Lucas Biglia, Filip De Wilde and Romelu Lukaku are some of Anderlecht’s notable players.
