Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Stevenage will be aiming to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Reading when they take on Portsmouth in the League One round 5. The Boro failed to keep their 100% record in the 2023/2024 season intact, but they are surely capable of matching the Pompey on home soil. Kane Smith limped off with injury in the last league match, with Harrison Neal likely to step. Experienced defender Nathan Thompson misses out through suspension.
Portsmouth, on the other hand, played out a goalless draw with Cheltenham in their last league match. Since the Pompey often struggle on the travels, we do not believe that they are capable of grabbing more than one point from Saturday’s encounter. All Bishop, Scully, and Robertson return to Portsmouth’s starting XI after the trio was rested in the EFL Trophy triumph over Fulham U21 on Tuesday evening.
Highlighted Player (Jake Taylor):
Jake Taylor is a product of the Reading football academy who plays for Exeter City in the League Two. Taylor spent his youth career at Reading, and he continued wearing the blue and white shirt at senior level.
After scoring two goals in 31 appearances with the Royals in the league, the English footballer spent several seasons on loan at the likes of Aldershot Town, Exeter City, Cheltenham Town, Crawley Town, Leyton Orient, and Motherwell. In 2016 Jake Taylor returned to Exeter City, signing a permanent deal with the St James Park outfit.
Despite being born in Ascot, England, on December 1, 1991, Taylor represents Wales on the international stage. He has ten caps with the Wales U21 team, and he made his debut with the Dragons at the senior level in a 2-1 win over Cyprus on October 13, 2014. His primary position is central midfielder.
Highlighted Team (Portsmouth):
During Milan Mandaric’s era at the club, Portsmouth played an important role in the Premier League, with the team finishing their debut season (2003/2004) in the 13th position in the standings. The club impressed in the 2008/2009 season, with Nwankwo Kanu’s goal helping them beat Cardiff City in the FA Cup final.
As a result, Portsmouth represented England in the Europa League, with the team progressing in the group stages of the competition thanks to a win over Vitoria Gimaraes in the final qualifying round. The current club was formed in 2013, but the original amateur club was founded back in 1883. Nowadays Portsmouth host their rivals at Fratton Park, with the venue holding up to 20,620 spectators.
The likes of Sol Campbell, David James, Glen Johnson and aforementioned Nigeria international Nwankwo Kanu are considered one of the club’s most notable players. Portsmouth wear blue shirts, white shorts and red socks when hosting their rivals at Fratton Park, while wearing white and blue colours when playing on the road.
