Our prediction for this Championship match:
Tuesday’s Championship derby between Ipswich Town and Leicester City will bring down the curtain on day 24 of the 2023/2024 campaign. The Tractor Boys aim to recover from a massive 4-0 loss to Leeds United, but they face yet another tough challenge against the league leaders. Even though there are no fresh injury worries in the home team, Marcus Harness should sneak into the starting XI.
The Foxes, on the other hand, are leading the chase for automatic promotion, with the team eyeing their sixth consecutive league win. As Leicester City are likely to stick to their attacking style of play, we believe that there is a big value in betting on over 2.5 goals. Jamie Vardy is unlikely to be risked, while all Marc Albrighton, Kasey McAteer, and Callum Doyle remain in the treatment room. Patson Daka will keep his place up front as a lone centre-forward.
Highlighted Player (Jamie Vardy):
Spending his early career playing no-league football, Jamie Vardy made the headlines when he joined Leicester City in a £1 million deal in 2012, but little did he know that he would go on to become a genuine Premier League star just three years later.
The experienced forward helped the Foxes gain promotion to the elite division and then score more than 20 goals as they mounted an unlikely title bid, earning worldwide acclaim as well as a place in the England squad. Vardy went on to score his first two goals for the Three Lions in March 2016 friendlies, with his back-heel goal against Germany in Berlin seeing him instantly become a fans’ favourite.
Over the years, Vardy has earned a reputation as a striker who never gives up and can be a real menace for opposition defenders, but his excellent goalscoring record and good link-up play are enough to suggest he can be described as a mix of old-style pacey forwards and modern strikers.
Highlighted Team (Ipswich):
Ipswich Town are an English football club that was formed in 1878. Portman Road has been the home ground of Ipswich Town since 1894 and the capacity of the venue, which was expanded in 2002, is 30,311. The Tractor Boys compete in the Championship, but they used to play in the English Premier League in the past as well. Ipswich Town last appeared in the elite division in the 2001/2002 season.
Ipswich won the FA Cup in 1978, with the team beating Arsenal (1-0) in the title game. However, the club’s biggest success came in 1981 when they outplayed AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Cup final. It has to be noted that the Tractor Boys have yet to suffer a loss at home ground in the European competitions.
Norwich City are regarded as Ipswich Town’s bitterest rivals and it is well known that the two sides take on each other in the East Anglian derby.
