Our prediction for this Championship match:
Sunderland will be aiming to climb to the playoffs berth when they take on Preston in the Championship round 26. The Black Cats are eyeing their eighth home win of the process, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. Patrick Roberts limped off with injury in a 1-1 draw with Rotherham United, with Abdoullah Ba likely to step up, while all Niall Huggins, Dennis Cirkin, Jay Matete, and Corry Evans remain in the recovery room.
The Lilywhites, on the other hand, do not seem to be at their sharpest, with the team losing three of their last four league matches. As Preston failed to impress in a 1-0 loss to relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday, we are tempted to put our money on Sunderland. Republic of Ireland midfielder Robbie Brady should be the only absentee in the away team. Last time out the two sides played out a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light.
Highlighted Player (Greg Cunningham):
Greg Cunningham is a product of Manchester City football academy. Irish footballer, who was born on January 31, 1991 in Galway, though, made no more than two appearances for Manchester City in the Premier League. After ending his loan spells with Leicester City and Nottingham Forest the defender moved to Bristol City in 2012 and he played for the Robins from 2012 to 2015.
Creg Cunningham did well to win the Football League Trophy with Bristol City in the 2014/2015 season, but at the end of the season he moved to Preston North End. The Irish footballer has established himself as a first-team regular at Preston and it has to be noted that he was appointed captain of the team on July 24, 2017.
Speaking of his international career, Greg Cunningham made his debut for Republic of Ireland on May 28, 2010 in a 3-0 win over Algeria. His main position is left-back, but he is capable of playing as a centre-back if needed as well.
Highlighted Team (Sunderland):
Sunderland are a professional football club that have been playing their home games at the Stadium of Light since 1997. The capacity of the stadium is 49,000, but before expansion the original ground capacity was 42,000. Red and White shirts are Sunderland’s trademark and the club’s fiercest rivals are Newcastle United. The two local rivals have been contesting in the Tyne-Wear derby since 1898 and there have always been fireworks in what is one of the greatest derbies in English football. Sunderland were on the verge of dropping to the Championship in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign, but experienced tactician Sam Allardyce eventually helped the team avoid relegation.
The Black Cats have won six First Division trophies (now the Premier League), with the team lifting two FA Cup titles. Sunderland won their first FA Cup trophy in 1937, with the team beating Preston North End 3-1 in the title game. The club was founded in 1879 as Sunderland and District Teachers A.F.C.
