Our prediction for this Spanish Super Cup match:
Sparkles will be flying when Real Madrid and Barcelona lock horns in Riyadh in the Spanish Super Cup final. Los Blancos proved their worth in a 4-2 win over Atletico Madrid in the semis, with the team creating a number of clear-cut opportunities to score. All David Alaba, Eder Militao, Lucas Vazquez, and Thibaut Courtois miss Sunday’s showdown with injuries, while experienced Germany midfielder Toni Kroos is pushing for a start.
The Catalans, on the other hand, set up a meeting with Real Madrid by beating Osasuna 2-0. Xavi’s troops are hungry for revenge, but given Real Madrid’s excellent offensive performance in the Spanish Super Cup semis, we predict that Carlo Ancelotti is going to lift yet another silverware with the capital club. Brazil winger Raphinha has joined the likes of Marcos Alonso, Joao Cancelo, Gavi, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the recovery room, with Lamine Yamal likely to step up.
Highlighted Player (Luka Modric):
Luka Modric is regarded as one of the best central midfielders in world football. The Croatian ace is a product of Dinamo Zagreb’s youth school and it has to be noted that he played 94 league games for the Modri between 2003 and 2008. In 2008 he signed a six-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £16.5 million.
Luka made his Tottenham debut on 16 August, 2008 in a 2-1 loss to Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium. The Croatian star scored only 13 goals in 127 league appearances for the Spurs, but he is well known for his brilliant passing. In 2012 he signed for Real Madrid for a fee of £30 million and he made his debut against Barcelona in the 2012 Spanish Super Cup, return leg.
Modric quickly established himself as a first-team regular and, no doubt, he helped the capital club win two Champions League trophies (2013/2014, 2015/2016). You should bear in mind that he was named Croatian Footballer of the Year in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2014.
Highlighted Team (Barcelona):
Barcelona is a Spanish football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia. Barca were founded in 1899 and they are regarded as one of the greatest clubs in world football. The Catalan giants won their 24th La Liga title in 2016, with Luis Suarez winning “El Pichichi” award. Barcelona have won five European Cup trophies and a number of top-class players were part of the team in the past.
The likes of Hristo Stoichkov, Romario, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona and Pep Guardiola are some of many players that played for Barca in the past, but, no doubt, Leo Messi has established himself as the club’s trademark. Barcelona welcome their rivals at Camp Nou, the stadium that was built in 1957.
Barcelona’s local rivals are Espanyol, but the rivalry between Barca and Real Madrid is much bigger. The two La Liga giants face each other in “El Clasico”, which is considered one of the most exciting derbies in the world football. Barca are famous for their football youth school La Masia as well.
