Our prediction for this Coupe de France match:
David faces Goliath at Stade Walter Luzi as Racing CFF and Lille take on each other in the Coupe de France last 64. Les Dogues recorded a routine 3-0 win over Lorient at the weekend and they are seen as hot favourites to beat the lower-league side as well. Even though both Nabil Bentaleb and Adam Ounas are on international duty, away win should be considered as Lille have been showing signs of improvement of late.
The National 2 side, on the other hand, are on a four-game winning run in all competitions, but Les Dogues will pose a much bigger threat for the hosts than their previous rivals. As previously mentioned, David faces Goliath in Chambly and we predict that the Ligue 1 side will emerge triumphant in Sunday’s clash without any difficulties. In their last meeting in a competitive match, back in 1990, Lille defeated Racing CFF 2-1, which is yet another reason why away win should be considered.
Highlighted Player (Benjamin André):
Benjamin Andre is a French footballer, who began his career at Stade Raphaelois youth team. At the age of 16 Andre moved to Ajaccio and he played for the first team from 2008 to 2014. The right-footed midfielder scored 12 goals in 187 appearances in the league for the Corsican team and in the summer of 2014 he moved to fellow French club Rennes.
Andre scored his first goal for les Rouges et Noirs on January 25, 2015, in a 4-1 defeat to Caen. The French player made provided three assists for his teammates in 36 appearances for Rennes in the 2016/2017 Ligue 1 campaign and the club chiefs decided to extend his contract in June, 2017. His deal with the Roazhon Park outfit should expire on June 30, 2022.
Benjamin Andre, who was born in Nice on August 3, 1990, has seven caps for France U21 team. The Rennes footballer plays as a central midfielder, but he is often used as both left and right midfielder.
Highlighted Team (Lille):
Lille have been playing an important role in French football ever since they were founded in 1944. Les Dogues won their first domestic trophy in the 1945/1946 season.
Lille did well to win their second Ligue 1 title in 1954 and 57 years later they lifted their last domestic title. Les Douges finished the 2010/2011 season in top position in the standings, eight points clear of second-placed Olympique Marseille and it has to be noted that Lille attacker Moussa Sow won the Golden Boot (25 goals).
Lille are one of the two teams that managed to win three consecutive Coupe de France trophies (1946, 1947, 1948), but they have yet to clinch the Coupe de la Ligue title. Les Dogues faced PSG in the 2015/2016 Coupe de la Ligue trophy, but les Parisiens proved to be a big catch for Frederic Antonetti’s team in the title game.
Lille play their home matches at Stade Pierre-Mauroy and the capacity of the stadium is 50.186. The venue was opened in August, 2017 and the construction cost €282 million.
