Our prediction for this Champions League match:
There will be fireworks when Real Madrid and Manchester City face each other at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in what many football enthusiasts expected to be the Champions League final. Los Blancos are enjoying a very successful season, with the team being on the right track to win the La Liga title, but they will have a big fish to fry in the CL double-header. David Alaba and Thibaut Courtois remain in the recovery room, but Carlo Ancelotti has no fresh injury worries as Real Madrid were not in action at the weekend.
The Citizens, on the other hand, aim to build on back-to-back wins over Aston Villa (4-1) and Crystal Palace (4-2). Pep Guardiola’s troops faced no difficulties in the previous round against Copenhagen, but seeing that the Spanish giants are tough to beat in Madrid, the share of spoils is on the horizon this time out. Manuel Akanji is widely expected to return to the starting eleven, while fellow defenders Nathan Ake and Kyle Walker remain on the sidelines with injuries. Josko Guardiol is a major doubt.
Highlighted Player (Luka Modric):
Luka Modric is regarded as one of the best central midfielders in world football. The Croatian ace is a product of Dinamo Zagreb’s youth school and it has to be noted that he played 94 league games for the Modri between 2003 and 2008. In 2008 he signed a six-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £16.5 million.
Luka made his Tottenham debut on 16 August, 2008 in a 2-1 loss to Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium. The Croatian star scored only 13 goals in 127 league appearances for the Spurs, but he is well known for his brilliant passing. In 2012 he signed for Real Madrid for a fee of £30 million and he made his debut against Barcelona in the 2012 Spanish Super Cup, return leg.
Modric quickly established himself as a first-team regular and, no doubt, he helped the capital club win two Champions League trophies (2013/2014, 2015/2016). You should bear in mind that he was named Croatian Footballer of the Year in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2014.
Highlighted Team (Man City):
Manchester City are the lest famous of the two major clubs based in Manchester. The club was founded in 1880, but they have been struggling in the English Premier League in the past. Nonetheless, ever since the club was purchased by Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, the Citizens have been playing an important role in the English top flight.
Manchester City won two Premier League trophies under Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini (2011/2012 and 2013/2014), but both managers eventually paid the price for some disappointing results. Man City play their home games at the Etihad Stadium and the stadium capacity is 55,097.
Manchester United are regarded as Manchester City’s biggest rivals and the likes of Kun Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Uwe Rosler, Yaya Toure, Sylvain Distin are some of the most remarkable players that played for the Etihad Stadium outfit. Manchester City have won four Premier League titles and five FA Cup trophies and it has to be noted that they made it to the Champions League semis in the 2015/2016 season.
