Our prediction for this Europa League match:
Expect an electrifying atmosphere at Stadion Miejski when Jagiellonia and Ajax lock horns in the Europa League playoffs, first leg, on Thursday evening. Jagiellonia failed to impress in the Champions League double-header with Bodo and they face yet another difficult task against the Amsterdammers. As the Yellow-Reds experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 4-2 loss to Cracovia at the weekend, home win should not be considered. Spanish midfielder Jesus Imaz returns to the starting XI after coming as a substitute in the last league match.
The Eredivisie side, on the other hand, aim to recover from a shocking 2-1 loss to NAC Breda and it seems as if they will not have a better chance than this to get back on course. Francesco Farioli rested several first-team regulars against Breda, but the Italian tactician is going to field the best possible side against Jagiellonia. The likes of Christian Rasmusen, Owen Wijndal, and Gaston Avila should miss out with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Steven Berghuis):
Born in Apeldoorn, Netherlands on December 19, 1991, Steven Berghuis is a Dutch winger who plays for Ajax in the Eredivisie. Berghuis played for the likes of Vitesse/AGOVV, WSV Apeldoorn, and Go Ahead Eagles during his youth career before joining Twente in 2009.
The 183-cm-tall footballer continued playing for the Reds at senior level. After ending his loan spell with VVV-Venlo, Steven Berghuis joined AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2012, and three years later signed a deal with the Premier League club Watford. After making no more than nine appearances in the English top flight, Berghuis moved to Feyenoord in August 2016, and he has been playing De club aan de Maas ever since.
His main position is right winger, but he is capable of producing fine displays as both left winger and attacking midfielder as well. He made his Netherlands debut on May 27, 2016 in a 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland.
Highlighted Team (Ajax):
Ajax is a Dutch football club that was founded on 18 March, 1900. Ajax are well known for their youth academy, which regarded as one of the best youth football schools in the world. The likes of Johan Cruijff, Edwin van der Sar, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert, Rafael van der Vaart and Marco van Basten are all products of Ajax’s football academy. The Amsterdammers share a big rivalry with Feyenoord and there have always been fireworks when the two teams face each other in De Klassieker.
During the seventies Feyenoord and Ajax were the only two teams who were capable of winning the domestic trophies, while PSV have been playing an important role in Dutch football in the 21st century. PSV and Ajax are regarded as big rivals as well and the two teams square off against each other in De Topper. Ajax play their home games at Amsterdam ArenA, the stadium that was opened on 14 August, 1996. The Amsterdammers won their fourth European Cup (Champions League) trophy in 1995, beating Milan in the title game in Vienna.
