Our prediction for this Nations League match:
There will be fireworks when France and Italy square off against each other at Parc des Princes in the Nations League A Group 2 derby. Les Tricolores did well to make it to the EURO 2024 semis, but Spain eventually proved to be a big catch for Didier Deschamps’ troops. The 55-year-old tactician, who is still in charge of the France national team, can’t count on the likes of Adrien Rabiot, Kingsley Coman, and Benjamin Pavard for Friday’s clash, but star players Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Antoine Griezmann made the cut.
The Azzurri, on the other hand, failed to impress at the 2024 European Championship finals and given the lack of top-class players in Luciano Spalletti’s team, we believe that there is a big value in betting on the hosts. Caleb Okoli (Leicester City) and Marco Brescianini (Atalanta) are the new faces in Spalletti’s team, while the likes of Jorginho, Bryan Cristante, Gianluca Mancini, Matteo Darmian, and Lorenzo Lucca have been omitted. Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella is yet another absentee in the away team.
Highlighted Player (Kylian Mbappé):
Kylian Mbappe is a French footballer who plays for Paris Saint-Germain as a forward. The French rising star began his youth career at AS Bondy and in 2013 he moved to AS Monaco. After making 12 appearances for Monaco B, Kylian Mbappe made his debut for the senior team in 2015. Mbappe quickly established himself as a regular goalscorer, with the teenager finding the net 15 times in 29 appearances in the Ligue 1 in the 2016/2017 season.
In 2017 he moved to fellow French club PSG on loan, with the option of making the deal permanent. Kylian Mbappe scored 13 goals in 27 appearances for les Parisiens in the 2017/2018 and it has to be noted that Unai Emery’s troops eventually won the national championship.
Speaking of his international career, Mbappe played an important role for France at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals, with the pacey rising star scoring a brace in a thrilling 4-3 win over Argentina in the last 16 of the showpiece tournament. The PSG attacker was born in Paris on December 20, 1998.
Highlighted Team (Italy):
With four World Cup titles and one European Championship trophy, Italy remain one of world’s most successful teams and they have also finished as runners up at major tournaments on four occasions. The Azzurri have become famous for their result oriented football over the years which is perfectly suited for World Cup and Euro finals, so it is now a surprise when they fail to reach the final stages.
After winning the second and third edition of the World Cup, Italy endured a difficult period until lifting their first European Championship title in 1968, while they also managed to show some improvement at the turn of the century. While winning the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the Azzurri reached Euro finals in 2000 and 2012, and they are still regarded as one of the leading sides in Europe.
There have been too many high-profile players leaving their mark on the national team to count, but the likes of Paolo Maldini, Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Dino Zoff, Roberto Baggio, Luigi Riva and Alessandro Del Piero will go down as some of the most successful ones.
