Our prediction for this Champions League match:
Bayern Munich and Dinamo Zagreb face each other in a David-vs-Goliath clash at Allianz Arena in the Champions League round 1. The Bavarians made a promising start to the new Bundesliga campaign and they must be high on confidence following a 6-1 crushing of Holstein Kiel. As Vincent Kompany is doing a great job with the German powerhouse, anything but a routine home win would be a big surprise.
A man to watch in the home team will be Harry Kane, who scored a hat-trick at the weekend, while the likes of Buchmann, Ibrahimovic, Ito, Sane, and Stanisic remain in the recovery room. The Croatian champions, on the other hand, will have a mountain to climb in Munich. In their last meeting at Allianz Arena Bayern crushed Dinamo Zagreb 5-0 and we predict that history is going to repeat itself. The fact that the Dark Blues suffered a heart-breaking loss to their bitter rivals Hajduk Split at the weekend goes in favour of our earlier prediction.
Highlighted Player (Harry Kane):
Widely regarded as one of England’s best strikers at the moment, Harry Kane enjoyed a meteoric rise at Tottenham Hotspur, scoring 21 Premier League goals during the 2014/2015 campaign to be voted PFA Young Player of the Year.
The highly rated striker went on to surpass that achievement the following season as he helped Tottenham Hotspur mount a serious title challenge for the first time in club’s recent history and he made seamless transition to international football. Kane scored four goals in his first ten appearances for England to prove he was here to stay and at the same time established himself as a first choice striker in Roy Hodgson’s squad ahead of the Euro 2016 finals.
Kane is a modern striker, who is extremely dangerous in the opposition box, but it was some outstanding goals from distance as well as link-up play with teammates that earned him an excellent reputation in world football. Kane is expected to lead both Tottenham and England in years to come, that is if he can resist the lure of top European clubs that continue to cast admiring glances his way.
Highlighted Team (Dinamo Zagreb):
Arguably the biggest club in Croatia and one of the most prominent football outfits in the Balkan region, Dinamo Zagreb have won 18 league titles, 11 of which came successively. Dinamo Zagreb have never been relegated to a lower tier of both Croatian and Yugoslav football.
Modri as they are called in Croatia are renowned for their impressive production line of youth footballers. Their highly organised football academy has so far produced world-class players such as Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic, Marko Pjaca and many others. Dinamo Zagreb play their home matches at the Stadion Maksimir in front of 35,000 people.
The club lacked support during the last couple of seasons due to fans’ disagreement with club management, most notably notorious Zdravko Mamic, who is under investigation for long-lasting corruption, tax evasion and embezzlement. For the first time since 2015, Dinamo Zagreb will have the full support of their most faithful supporters in the Champions League.
