Our prediction for this Championship match:
Middlesbrough play host to Sheffield United at their Riverside Stadium in what is expected to be one of the most exciting games of Wednesday’s program. The Boro failed to impress in back-to-back defeats to Watford and Bristol City, but the midweek clash could be the turning point for Michael Carrick’s troops. All Bangura, Forss, Fry, Howson, Lenihan, and Smith remain on the sidelines with injuries for the home side.
The Blades, on the other hand, are hit by Vini Souza’s suspension and we predict that the Brazil international is going to be sorely missed in Wednesday’s encounter. Anyhow, a close encounter is on the horizon as Middlesbrough and Sheffield United seem to be evenly matched at the moment. Midfielder Tom Davies is injured for the visiting side as well. You should bear in mind that both Middlesbrough and Sheffield United managed to find the net in each of their last three meetings in the Championship.
Highlighted Player (Paddy McNair):
Following in the footsteps of his compatriot Jonny Evans, Paddy McNair joined the Manchester United academy in 2011 and he was surprisingly handed first team debut by Louis van Gaal at the start of the 2014/2015 season.
Despite his fragile age, the talented central defender has been putting in some very mature performances ever since, and everything suggests he could go on to become an important player at Old Trafford in years to come. After representing a number of youth sides, McNair made his first appearance for the Northern Ireland senior national team in a March 2015 friendly vs Scotland, before making another three outings as his side secured their place at the Euro 2016 finals.
Northern Ireland coach Michael O’Neill surprisingly played McNair in holding midfield in the March 2016 friendly vs Wales. After the youngster impressed in the middle of the park, O’Neill went on to suggest that the Manchester United starlet may be used in midfield rather than defence in years to come in the national team.
Highlighted Team (Sheffield United):
Sheffield United are a professional football club that compete in the Championship. The Blades finished the 2016/2017 League One campaign in top position in the standings, with the team collecting exactly 100 points in the process. Sheffield United last competed in the Premier League in the 2006/2007 season and they were more than unfortunate not to secure the top flight survival.
The Blades finished the season in 18th place in the process and it has to be noted that they were level on points with Wigan Athletic, who managed to avoid the relegation to the English second tier. Sheffield United welcome their rivals at Bramal Lane, the stadium which was opened on April 30, 1855. The current capacity of the venue is 32.702.
The club have numerous rivalries, but the most notable one is the rivalry with their city neighbors Sheffield Wednesday. The two teams face each other in the Steel City derby and it has to be noted that United share rivalry with the likes of Barnsley, Rotherham United, Doncaster Rovers and Leeds United as well.
