Our prediction for this Champions League match:
All eyes will be on Anfield when Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen lock horns in an eagerly-awaited Champions League game. The Reds came from behind to beat Brighton at the weekend and they now aim to overtake Aston Villa in top position in the Champions League table. Pacey Colombia winger Luis Diaz is widely expected to return to the starting XI, while the likes of Alisson Becker, Federico Chiesa, Diogo Jota, and Harvey Elliott remain in the recovery room.
The Bundesliga side, on the other hand, played out a boring goalless draw with Stuttgart at the weekend. As Xabi Alonso’s men have yet to find their form in the new season, we are tempted to place our bets on Arne Slot’s troops, who have been producing excellent displays in all competitions. In their last meeting at Anfield, back in 2005, Liverpool defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 and we predict that history is going to repeat itself. Both Amine Adli and Jeanul Belocian are out of contention with injuries, speaking of the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Alex Grimaldo):
Alex Grimaldo is a Spanish footballer who plays for Portuguese side Benfica as a left back. Born in Valencia on September 20, 1995, Grimaldo started his youth career at his hometown club FC Valencia, but in 2008 Barcelona scouts brought him to Camp Nou.
The 171-cm-tall footballer scored six goals in 92 appearances for Barca B before joining Primeira Liga club Benfica in the winter of 2015. Alex Grimaldo made his debut with the Eagles on January 26, 2016 in a 6-1 win at Moreirense in the Taca da Liga. Speaking of his Primeira Liga debut, Grimaldo played his first league game for Benfica on February 29, 2016 in a 2-0 win over Uniao Leiria.
The Benfica defender has two caps for Spain U21 team, but he has yet to make his debut with the senior team. His main position is left-back, but he is capable of producing fine performances as a left winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Liverpool):
Founded back in 1892, Liverpool are one of England’s and world’s most famous clubs. The Reds hold a high-profile rivalry with Everton and there have always been fireworks when the two teams take on each other in the Merseyside derby.
The Reds welcome their opponents at Anfield and it has to be noted that they have already won 18 first division trophies. Liverpool were on the verge of lifting the 2014/2015 Premier League trophy, but Steven Gerrard slipped in the decider against Chelsea and left the Reds without a title.
Liverpool won one of their last Champions League trophy's in 2005, with the team coming from three goals behind to beat Milan in a historic clash in Istanbul. The Reds have clinched six European Cups and it is no surprise they are regarded as one of the greatest European clubs.
The likes of Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, Paul Ince, Ian Rush, Graeme Souness, Sami Hyypia and Luis Suarez are some of the most notable footballers to have represented the club over the years. The club’s anthem is You’ll Never Walk Alone and their shirt colour is red.
