Our prediction for this Champions League match:
Brest will be aiming to recover from a 3-1 loss to Lille when they take on PSV in the Champions League round 6. Brest are eyeing their fourth win of the process, but, not doubt, they should be happy with one point from Tuesday’s clash as well. Les Pirates are tough to beat at home, but bear in mind that this game will be played on a different stadium (Stade de Roudourou). To make things even worse for the home side, important attacker Ludovic Ajorque misses out with injury.
The Eredivisie champions, on the other hand, rolled over Twente 6-1 to once again showcase their dominance in the Dutch top flight. As Brest take on PSV on a neutral location, we are tempted to place our bets on Peter Bosz’s troops. The likes of Dest, Driouech, and Fofana are out of contention with injuries for the away team.
Highlighted Player (Luuk de Jong):
The 26-year-old Dutch striker Luuk de Jong is considered one of Europe’s deadliest strikers with his incredible return of goals in games he spends playing. Luuk de Jong began his football career at De Graafschap in 2008, but moved on to Twente only a year later.
The tally of 39 goals in 76 league appearances earned him a transfer to Borussia Monchengladbach, but his spell in Germany ended in disappointment. Bundesliga club attempted to revive his career by sending him out on loan to Newcastle United but his stint with the English club yielded even more disappointment and concluded in utter disaster with De Jong playing 12 games without scoring a single goal for the Magpies.
A return to Netherlands and PSV Eindhoven turned out to be a proper hit for the 26-year-old striker who has restored his scoring touch with more than 50 goals for the Boeren after less than 90 games.
Highlighted Team (Brest):
Founded in 1950, Brest (Stade Brestois) are a French football club that compete in the Ligue 1. La Team Pirate welcome their opponents at Stade Francis-Le Ble, the venue which was opened back in 1922. The capacity of the stadium is 15,931, but on August 8, 1986 21,619 watched the game between Brest and Olympique Marseille.
The club’s home colours are red and white, with the team wearing black kit when playing on the travels. Brest’s third kit is white. La Team Pirate, who made it to the French Cup on two occasions (1982/83 and 2014/15), have rivalries with fellow clubs from Bretagne: Rennes, Lorient, Nantes, Guingamp and Vannes.
The likes of Bernard Lama Stephane Guivarch, Paul le Guen, David Ginola and Frank Ribbery are the most notable footballers who played for the club. Bayern Munchen legend Frank Ribery scored 3 goals in 35 appearances for Brest in the national championship.
