Our prediction for this Championship match:
Stoke City will be aiming to make amends for a 2-0 loss to Leeds United when they face Sunderland on Sunday afternoon. The Potters do not seem to be at their sharpest in the year finale, losing five of their last six games and, as a result, the bookies see them as big underdogs in this clash. Defender Michael Rose should be recalled to the starting XI, while midfielder Ben Pearson has yet to overcome his injury.
The Black Cats, on the other hand, have been in a fine form of late, beating both Swansea City and Sunderland, while sharing the spoils with Blackburn on Boxing Day. Given Stoke City’s shaky defence, we predict that the title hopefuls are going to pick up all three points from the match. The likes of Browne, Huggins, Mundle, and Seelt should miss out with injuries for the away team. In their last encounter in the English second tier, Sunderland defeated Stoke 2-1.
Highlighted Player (Jack Bonham):
Jack Bonham is a professional footballer who was born in Stevenage on the 14th of September, 1993. The 26-year-old, although having born in England, is an Irish International and has featured for the Republic of Ireland's Under-17 team five times.
At the club level, he began his youth career with Watford and signed his first professional contract in September 2010 at the age of 17. Bonham's first-ever professional appearance came on the 4th of May, 2013 as a substitute against Leeds United in the final game of the 12/13 Championship season.
This appearance marked the 1.92 m standing goalkeeper's only appearance in a Watford shirt. Bonham then went on to play for clubs like Brentford, Carlisle United and Bristol Rovers before eventually joining Gillingham at the start of the 2019 season on a two-year contract. He's since featured nine times for the club and kept two clean sheets.
Highlighted Team (Sunderland):
Sunderland are a professional football club that have been playing their home games at the Stadium of Light since 1997. The capacity of the stadium is 49,000, but before expansion the original ground capacity was 42,000. Red and White shirts are Sunderland’s trademark and the club’s fiercest rivals are Newcastle United. The two local rivals have been contesting in the Tyne-Wear derby since 1898 and there have always been fireworks in what is one of the greatest derbies in English football. Sunderland were on the verge of dropping to the Championship in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign, but experienced tactician Sam Allardyce eventually helped the team avoid relegation.
The Black Cats have won six First Division trophies (now the Premier League), with the team lifting two FA Cup titles. Sunderland won their first FA Cup trophy in 1937, with the team beating Preston North End 3-1 in the title game. The club was founded in 1879 as Sunderland and District Teachers A.F.C.
