Our prediction for this Champions League match:
Stadion Wankdorf will host Wednesday’s Champions League game between Young Boys and Crvena Zvezda, the two teams that failed to make it to the knockout stages. Young Boys aim to put an end to their dreadful seven-game losing run, but they face a tough challenge against the Serbian champions. Midfielder Filip Ugrinic is sidelined through suspension and we predict that the 26-year-old is going to be sorely missed against Zvezda.
The Red and Whites, on the other hand, showed character in a 3-2 loss to PSV and with all key players being fit for the trip to Bern, we believe that there is a big value in betting on Vladan Milojevic’s troops. Ognjen Mimovic, who is on the verge of joining St Etienne, is unlikely to feature against Young Boys, while former Slavia Prague winger Peter Olayinka remains in the recovery room. Senegal striker Cherif Ndiaye is widely expected to lead the line for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Rade Krunic):
Rade Krunic is a product of Sutjeska Foca youth football school. The Bosnia international was born in Foca on October 7, 1993 and 19 years later he made his senior debut with his hometown club Sutjeska.
After scoring three goals in 15 appearances for the Bosnian club, the Bosnian midfielder moved to Serbian side Donji Srem in 2013. In 2014 he signed a contract with Italian side Hellas Verona, but he was immediately loaned back to Donji Srem. In 2015 Rade Krunic made 13 appearances for Serbian side Borac Cacak before joining yet another Italian team Empoli.
He has been playing for the Azzurri ever since and it has to be noted that he scored his first goal for the Serie A side in a 2-0 win over Genoa in October, 2015. Speaking of his international career, Krunic made his Bosnia and Herzegovina debut in a friendly against Denmark on June 3, 2016. He has 8 caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina U21 team as well.
Highlighted Team (Young Boys):
Just five years after its foundation Young Boys won their first Swiss Super League trophy (1903). The capital club won no less than 11 domestic trophies in the 20th century, but they have been in Basel’s shadow in the last two decades. Young Boys won their last Swiss Super League title back in 1986, while lifting their last Swiss Cup trophy in 1987.
The Yellow and Blacks welcome their rivals at Stade de Suisse, which acts as a national stadium and it has to be noted that they play their home games on artificial turf. Swiss football legend Stephane Chapuisat played for the club in the past and you should bear in mind that former Yugoslavia coach Vujadin Boskov played for the Stade de Suisse outfit in the past as well.
Young Boys played their first official game on 29 June, 1898 and they shared the spoils with Institute Grunau back then. The Swiss team participated in the 2016/2017 Champions League qualifiers, but they failed to make it to the group stages of the elite competition.
