Stadio Carlo Castellani will be the centre of attention when Empoli and Atalanta lock horns in the Serie A round 26. The Azzurri are on a three-game losing run and they face yet another uphill task in Sunday’s encounter. As Empoli experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 3-0 loss to Udinese, home win should not be considered. Defender Luca Marianucci has yet to serve his ban, while Empoli’s injury list remains pretty long.
The Orobici, on the other hand, are desperate to recover from the Champions League loss to Club Brugge. With Empoli heading into the match with a severely-weakened squad, Atalanta will not have a better chance than this to get back on course. The likes of Scamacca, Scalvini, Maldini, Hien, and Kossounou are out of contention with injuries for the away team. Earlier this season, Atalanta defeated Empoli 3-2 at Gewiss Stadium.

He made 36 appearances for Atalanta in the 2015/2016 Serie A campaign, but on 4 July, 2016, he signed a contract with Middlesbrough for a reported fee of £12m. The Dutch footballer scored one goal in three appearances for Netherlands U19 team.
