Alaves
A place in the Spanish Cup last 32 will be at stake when Deportivo La Coruna and Deportivo Alaves face each other at Estadio Municipal de Riazor. Fernando Vazquez’s men defeated El Ejido 1-0 in their Copa del Rey opener despite Borja Granero’s sending off. The experienced midfielder is banned for the Deportivo Alaves game, but the Segunda B side should not be written off just yet.
Deportivo Alaves head into the match following a La Liga defeat to Atletico Madrid, and, no doubt, they are eager to get back on course. The Andalusians defeated lower-league side 2-0 in the opening match of their Copa del Rey campaign, but beating Deportivo at “Riazor” is easier said than done. A close encounter is on the cards, and we are tempted to put our money on draw. Joselu and Lucas Perez are pushing for a start for the visitors.
Highlighted Player (Celso Borges):
Celso Borges is an experienced 28-year-old central midfielder who currently plays for Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna and the Costa Rica national team. Borges was a youth prospect at Saprissa before making his making his professional debut at the age of 18.
He had a very successful career winning five national championships with Saprissa. Borges later had stints at various clubs before joining Deportivo in 2015 initially on loan and then permanently. He played in the 2005 U-17 FIFA World Championships and was considered among the best players of the tournament. His youth team exploits earned him a senior team debut in 2008 after which he became a regular with the national team.
Borges has already earned a total of 85 caps for Costa Rica and found the back of the net 19 times. He had a successful run with the national team in 2014 FIFA World Cup reaching the quarter-finals.

Alaves is a Spanish football club located in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Alava. The club were founded in 1921 and they play their home games at Estadio Mendizorrotza. The capacity of the stadium is 19,840 and it has to be noted that it is the third oldest stadium in Spanish football. After spending several years in the Spanish Segunda Division, los Babazorros returned to the top flight in 2016.
The color of Alaves’ home kit is blue and white and the club’s local rivals are fellow Basque sides Real Sociedad, Athletic Club, Osasuna and Eibar. Alaves made it to the UEFA CUP final in 2001, but they were beaten by Liverpool 5-4 in a thrilling football clash. Anyhow, that is still regarded as the club’s biggest success. Los Babazorros booked their place in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals on four occasions and they have yet to win the Primera Division trophy.
