Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
There will be fireworks when PSV and Ajax face each other in De Klassieker on Sunday afternoon. PSV are six points behind the league leaders ahead of Matchday 24, meaning that this has to go down as a must-win game for the home side. Roger Schmidt’s charges are eyeing their fourth consecutive win at home in the Eredivisie, and we are positive that they will adopt an attack-minded approach in Sunday’s derby.
Mario Gotze, who scored a brace in the 3-1 win over Vitesse, is pushing for a start, but a man to watch in the home team will be Donyell Malen, who has netted 14 goals so far this term. Talented midfielder Mohammed Ihattaren has been tested positive for coronavirus. The Amsterdammers, on the other hand, aim to retain top position in the standings. Ajax are enjoying yet another successful season, and given their attacking potential, a high-scoring affair is on the cards at Philips Stadion.
Highlighted Player (Philipp Max):
Philipp Max is the son of the former striker Martin Max, who is famous for being one of the oldest winners of the top scorer crown in Bundesliga, at the age of 32 and 34. Born in Viersen, Germany, Philipp Max started his career in SC Baldham, after which he joined 1860 Munich in 2003.
Bayern Munich youth team was his next destination, but three years after Max signed for Schalke 04 in 2010. For two years he played in the youth team and after that he was moved to Schalke 04 II, recording 54 games and netting 3 goals in the process.
He made his debut for the Shalke 04 senior team on March 2014 in the clash against Borussia Dortmund, as a replacement for Julian Draxler. However, he did not impress during his spell with Die Königsblauen, so he moved to Karlsruher and later on to Augsburg, which was a spot on decision. The left back, who can also play as a left midfielder and left winger, was the second-best assist provider in the Bundesliga during the season 2017/18, just behind Thomas Muller.
Highlighted Team (Ajax):
Ajax is a Dutch football club that was founded on 18 March, 1900. Ajax are well known for their youth academy, which regarded as one of the best youth football schools in the world. The likes of Johan Cruijff, Edwin van der Sar, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert, Rafael van der Vaart and Marco van Basten are all products of Ajax’s football academy. The Amsterdammers share a big rivalry with Feyenoord and there have always been fireworks when the two teams face each other in De Klassieker.
During the seventies Feyenoord and Ajax were the only two teams who were capable of winning the domestic trophies, while PSV have been playing an important role in Dutch football in the 21st century. PSV and Ajax are regarded as big rivals as well and the two teams square off against each other in De Topper. Ajax play their home games at Amsterdam ArenA, the stadium that was opened on 14 August, 1996. The Amsterdammers won their fourth European Cup (Champions League) trophy in 1995, beating Milan in the title game in Vienna.
