Our prediction for this League 1 match:
There will be fireworks when Peterborough and Sunderland square off against each other in the League One derby on Matchday 40. Following a thrilling 7-0 win over Accrington, the Posh defeated Fleetwood on Friday thanks to Jonson Clarke-Harris’ late goal from the free kick. Peterborough are brimming with confidence ahead of Monday’s derby, but beating Sunderland is easier said than done.
The Black Cats have been impressive in the second half of the season, and, no doubt, they are determined to secure automatic promotion to the Championship. Anyhow, a close encounter is on the cards at Weston Homes Stadium, and we are tempted to put our money on draw. Siriki Dembele is rated doubtful for the hosts, while All Bailey Wright, Jordan Willis, and Tom Flanagan remain sidelined for the visitors. Denver Hume is a major doubt, and he will be assessed on the match day.
Highlighted Player (Mark Beevers):
Born in Barnsley, England on November 21, 1989, Mark Beevers is a 193-cm tall defender who plays for Peterborough United. The product of Sheffield Wednesday football school made 140 appearances in the league for the Owls before signing a permanent deal with fellow Championship club Millwall.
Mark Beevers scored 7 goals in 117 appearances for the Lions, playing for the club until the 2016 transfer window. The English defender then moved to Bolton where he scored 11 goals in 121 appearances in the league.
In May 2019 Mark Beevers signed a three-year deal with Peterborough United. He made his League One debut with the Posh in a 3-1 loss to Fleetwood Town on August 3, 2019. His main position is centre-back, but he is used as a left-back as well. His preferred foot is left and he has a contract with Peterborough United which should expire on June 30, 2022.
Highlighted Team (Sunderland):
Sunderland are a professional football club that have been playing their home games at the Stadium of Light since 1997. The capacity of the stadium is 49,000, but before expansion the original ground capacity was 42,000. Red and White shirts are Sunderland’s trademark and the club’s fiercest rivals are Newcastle United. The two local rivals have been contesting in the Tyne-Wear derby since 1898 and there have always been fireworks in what is one of the greatest derbies in English football. Sunderland were on the verge of dropping to the Championship in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign, but experienced tactician Sam Allardyce eventually helped the team avoid relegation.
The Black Cats have won six First Division trophies (now the Premier League), with the team lifting two FA Cup titles. Sunderland won their first FA Cup trophy in 1937, with the team beating Preston North End 3-1 in the title game. The club was founded in 1879 as Sunderland and District Teachers A.F.C.
