Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Emmen will be aiming to bounce back from a 4-0 loss to Ajax when they take on Groningen in the Eredivisie round DODATI. Emmen failed to spoil Ajax’s party at Johan Criujff Arena, but their displays in the second half of the season are surely giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of the visit of Groningen. You should bear in mind that the relegation strugglers are eyeing their third consecutive win at home ground. Both Bakker and Carty are likely to miss the game with injuries.
The Green and White Army, on the other hand, suffered a dip in form, with the team losing each of their previous three league fixtures. Despite the poor run of results, Groningen are on the right track to book their place in the Conference League playoffs. Considering that the hosts want this win more than the visitors, Danny Buijs’ men are likely to return home empty-handed. Talented attacker Alessio Da Cruz returns from suspension for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Anco Jansen):
Born in Zwolle, Netherlands on March 9, 1989, Anco Jansen is a pacey winger who started his senior career in his home-town club FC Zwolle. After scoring two goals in 40 league appearances for the club, he joined Groningen in 2008, but he did not see any game action with the Green and White Army in the Eredivisie.
Anco Jansen played for the likes of Cambuur, SC Veendam, De Graafschap, Roda JC, and Boluspor as well before joining FC Emmen in 2017. Anco Jansen made his Eredivisie debut with FC Emmen in a 2-1 win over ADO Den Haag on August 12, 2018, with the winger finding the net after 42 minutes.
His main position is left winger, but he is used as both centre-forward and attacking midfielder as well. His preferred foot is right. Anco Jansen has yet to earn a call-up with the Netherlands national football team.
Highlighted Team (Groningen):
Groningen is a Dutch football clubs that competes in the Eredivisie. Founded on June 16, 1971, Groningen play home games at Euroborg. The venue was built by Ballas Nedam, Royal BAM Group and VolkerWessels, and it can hold up to 22,525 people.
The Trots van het Noorden (Pride of the North) are well known for their white home shirts with red stripes, while purple is the dominant colour of their away kit. Volendam are considered the club’s fiercest rivals, but they have a rivalry with Twente as well after the 1980s incidents between their fans. Groningen have yet to win the Eredivisie trophy, but they did well to go all the way in the Dutch Cup in the 2014/15 season.
The green and whites defeated Zwolle 2-0 in the title game. Speaking of their European success, it has to be noted that Groningen participated in the Europa League on two occasions. In the 2015/16 season the Trots van het Noorden booked their place in the group stages of the competition, but they failed to record a win in the process.
