Suriname
Jamaica take on Suriname at Exploria Stadium in the opening match of their 2021 Gold Cup campaign. The Reggae Boyz are after their first win of the year, and we are positive that they will leave their hearts on the field. A man to keep an eye on in the home team will be pacey Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, who scored 9 goals in the Bundesliga last term.
Suriname, on the other hand, missed out on a place at the 2022 World Cup finals. Considering that Dean Gorre’s team suffered a loss in each of their previous four meetings with Jamaica, we are tempted to put our money on the Reggae Boyz. The two national teams, though, meet for the first time ever at the Gold Cup finals. Gleofilo Vlijter, who has netted 11 goals in 9 appearances for the Suriname national team, will be the man to watch in the away side.
Highlighted Player (Wes Morgan):
Wes Morgan is an experienced 32-year-old defender who plays for English Premier League team Leicester City and the Jamaica national team. Morgan spent majority of his career at his boyhood club Nottingham Forest playing more than 400 games for them across 10 seasons. He was their longest-serving player when he transferred to Leicester City in 2012.
Morgan soon became the captain of Leicester City and had great success with the Foxes most notably winning the Championship title in 2014 and the Premier League title in 2016. Morgan was born and brought up in England but chose to represent his ancestral nation at international level.
He debuted for Jamaica in 2013 and was part of the teams that competed in the 2015 Copa America. He was also a successful member of the Jamaican team that finished second in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Morgan is a tough tackling defender and is a sturdy presence at the back.

The Reggae Boyz are enjoying in their 2014 Copa Centroamericana title and are looking forward to their second-ever entry into the Copa America. Jamaica took positives from their debut in the competition last year in Chile despite going out in the group stage and will now be willing to make one step further.
The country had more success later in the summer when Winfried Schafer’s men knocked off the United States in the semi-finals of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Reggae Boyz were ultimately stopped in the final as they lost to Mexico, but the ticket to 2016 Copa America was enough of a reward itself as four highest finishers were guaranteed a place at the competition.
Jamaica stepped onto the international scene with a 2-1 win over Haiti in 1925 and have so far qualified only once for the FIFA World Cup in 1998. It was not until 1965 that Jamaica made their first attempt to qualify for the World Cup though.
