Our prediction for this Segunda Division match:
Ponferradina will be aiming to regain top position in the standings when they take on Almeria on day 5 of the new Segunda Division campaign. La Ponfe kicked off the new La Liga 2 campaign with three consecutive wins, but they suffered a 2-0 loss to Tenerife in their last league match. Ponferradina aim to start a new winning run, but they will have a mountain to climb in Sunday’s showdown.
The Andalusians, on the other hand, aim to build on a 2-0 win over Malaga where Nigeria international Umar Sadiq once again proved his worth. Even though defender Ivan Martos is banned for the match, we are tempted to put our money on the visiting team. In their last encounter in Segunda Division Ponferradina emerged triumphant, meaning that Almeria are hungry for revenge. Veteran attacker Yuri (39) will be one of the men to watch in the home team.
Highlighted Player (Curro Sanchez):
Curro Sanchez is a Spanish footballer who plays for Ponferradina in Segunda Division. Born in La Palma del Condado on January 3, 1996, Sanchez began his youth career at Siempre Alegres, but in 2007 he was spotted by Sevilla scouts.
Curro Sanchez did not hesitate at all, signing a contract with the famous La Liga side. To make things even better for the Andalusian, he made his senior debut with Sevilla in La liga on May 4, 2016 in a 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna. Curro Sanchez then joined Numancia, where he scored 13 goals in 34 appearances in Segunda Division for los Numantinos.
In 2020 he signed a deal with La Liga 2 side Ponferradina. Sanchez made his la Ponfe debut in a 2-0 win over Albacete on September 20, 2020. Even though right winger is his primary position, Curro Sanchez is capable of producing fine performances as an attacking midfielder as well.
Highlighted Team (Almeria):
UD Almeria is a Spanish club based in the autonomous community of Andalusia. Los Rojiblancos are one of the newer additions to the Spanish football system, with the club being founded on July 26, 1989.
Almeria suffered relegation to Segunda Division in the 2014/15 season, and they have been competing in the Spanish second tier ever since. Los Rojiblancos are well known for their white shirts with red stripes, while blue is the dominant colour of their away jersey. Sofiane Feghouli, Felipe Melo, Diego Alves, Veljko Paunovic, Aleix Vidal, Alvaro Negredo, Tomer Hemed, and Mate Bilic are some notable footballers who played for Almeria in the past. Fellow Andalusian clubs Sevilla, Malaga, and Granada are considered the club’s fiercest rivals.
The club’s biggest success in Copa del Rey came in the 2010/11 season when they made it to the semis of the prestigious competition. Nonetheless, Catalan giants Barcelona proved to be a big catch for Almeria in the Spanish Cup semi-finals.
