Our prediction for this Championship match:
WBA will be looking to make amends for a 1-0 loss to Stoke when they take on Birmingham City at the Hawthorns on Friday evening. The Baggies are still seen as one of the main candidates for automatic promotion, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. Defender Ahmed Hegazy could be given a rest after playing two games for Egypt in a short period of time, while both Rayhaan Tulloch and Dara O’Shea remain in the recovery room.
The Blues, on the other hand, aim to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest. Considering that Birmingham City failed to find the net in the previous four league fixtures, we are tempted to put our money on the promotion-chasing hosts. When the two teams met in a friendly three months ago WBA crushed Birmingham 4-0. All Adan George, Ivan Sanchez, and Neil Etheridge miss out with injuries for the away team.
Highlighted Player (Callum Robinson):
Born in Northampton, Callum Robinson started his career at Aston Villa. Having gone through the youth ranks with the Villans, Robinson was given his first-team debut in 2013. As a product of the Aston Villa academy, Robinson unfortunately never got a chance to prove his worth at the club and ended up playing no less than 4 league appearances during his three-year stay at Villa Park.
Various loan spells – at Preston North End on two occasions and Bristol City – brought mixed fortunes for the striker up until 2016 when he sealed a permanent move with the Lillywhites. Robinson represented England at U16, U17, U19 and U20 levels but raised plenty of eyebrows when he declared for the Republic of Ireland in March 2018 through his late grandmother who was from Monaghan.
The striker made his senior team breakthrough in Republic of Ireland’s 2-2 draw with Celtic in Scott Brown’s testimonial match and will be hoping to prove doubters wrong and prove his motive is bigger than career opportunism.
Highlighted Team (Birmingham City):
Birmingham City are a club located in the city of Birmingham, England. Birmingham City were founded in 1875 as Small Heath Alliance, but the club’s named was changed to Small Heath in 1888. 17 years later they became Birmingham and in 1943 they finally changed their name to Birmingham City.
The Blues welcome their rivals at St. Andrew’s, the stadium that was opened in 1906. Birmingham City compete in the Championship and their fiercest rivals are WBA and Aston Villa. The Blues made it to the FA Cup final twice, but they have yet to win the prestigious trophy. In 1931 they were beaten by their local rivals WBA in the title game (1-2), whilst in 1956 they were outplayed by Manchester City in the title game.
The colour of Birmingham’s home kit is blue with white stripe. Trevor Francis, Gil Merrick, Bob Latchford, Jeff Hall, Alex Govan, Joe Bradford and Christophe Dugarry are notable footballers who played for the St. Andrew’s outfit in the past.
