Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Monaco play host to Strasbourg at their Stade Louis II in what is expected to be an interesting Ligue 1 game. Les Rouges et Blancs came from two goals behind to share the spoils with Lille at the weekend, and, no doubt, they are high on confidence ahead of Sunday’s clash. Serbia defender Strahinja Pavlovic is sidelined through suspension, while both Eliot Matazo and Cesc Fabregas remain in the recovery room.
Le Racing, on the other hand, head into the match following back-to-back draws with Nantes and Reims. Strasbourg are undefeated in the previous three league fixtures, but Monaco should pose a much bigger threat for the visiting team than their previous rivals. The likes of Maxime Le Marchand, Jean-Eudes Aholou, and Lebo Mothiba should miss out with injuries for the visiting side, but there are no suspended players in the away side.
Highlighted Player (Djibril Sidibé):
Born in Troyes, Djibril Sidibe made his first football steps at his hometown club. Having excelled throughout the youth ranks, Sidibe was rewarded with his professional debut in 2010. Two years later he moved to Lille where he established himself as one of the biggest prospects in French football.
A 2016 move to Ligue 1 giants Monaco came as a reward for his impressive qualities. Sidibe is a solid right-back who is great at picking out passes, especially with crosses. A determined individual, Sidibe does not easily get caught out in a wide space. His impressive footwork make him a difficult player to play against going forward which he has a knack for.
Monaco are expected to be another stepping stone in his career and it won’t be too long before the World Cup winning French international has made a move to one of Europe’s top sides.
Highlighted Team (Strasbourg):
Founded back in 1906, Strasbourg is a professional football team that compete in French Ligue 1. Le Racing did remarkably well to win the 1979 Ligue 1 trophy and that is considered the biggest success in the history of the club. Strasbourg won Coupe de France on three occasions (1951, 1966, 2001) and they have three Coupe de la Ligue trophies as well (1964, 1997, 2005). Strasbourg’s main rivals are Metz and the two teams face each other in the Derby de l’Est (The Eastern derby).
Le Racing recorded their biggest victory over Valenciennes (10-0) in the 1937-1938 season, whilst they suffered their biggest loss to Limoges (0-8) in the 1959/1960 season. Paraguayan goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert, who is well known for his free-kick abilities, played for the club from 2000 to 2003, but he failed to score in a league match during his spell with the Stade de la Meinau outfit. Speaking of Stade de la Meinau, Strasbourg’s home ground was opened back in 1914 and the capacity of the venue is 29,320.
