Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Stade Auguste-Delaune will host Sunday’s Ligue 1 game between Reims and Bordeaux, the two teams who sit in the bottom half of the table. Reims aim to make amends for back-to-back losses to Metz and PSG, and they are likely to go all guns blazing at les Girondins. Dion Lopy is banned for the match, but the good news for the hosts is that all Doumbia, Konan, and Toure are back from international duty.
Les Girondins, on the other hand, aim to build on a thrilling 4-3 win over Strasbourg. Le Racing are tough to beat at home, but seeing that they suffered a heavy 6-0 loss to Rennes in their last away game, we are tempted to put our money on Reims this time out. Tom Lacoux misses out through suspension for the visiting side, while all Benoit Costil, Amadou Traore, Jimmy Briand, and Paul Baysse are sidelined with injuries. Midfielder Issouf Sissokho is back from suspension.
Highlighted Player (Moussa Doumbia):
A Malian midfielder Moussa Doumbia has been with Russian side FK Rostov since 2014. The 22-year-old powerful midfielder started his career with Real Bamako in 2012. Doumbia spent two years playing for the Scorpions in the Malien Premiere Division, the top rank in the country. Russian side recognised his talent and made a transfer in 2014 tying Moussa Doumbia on a four-year deal.
During two seasons with Russian Premier League outfit, Doumbia was involved in 31 league matches. In 2015-16 season he contributed to his club’s runners-up finish with two goals of his own. Full-time Mali international made his national team debut in 2014 in a 3-1 victory over China in Shenzen.
His most recent international appearances occurred in September during an empathic 5-2 win over Benin in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. Doumbia went on to score his team’s fifth goal with eleven minutes on the clock rounding off an impressive performance.
Highlighted Team (Bordeaux):
Founded in 1881, Bordeaux are regarded as one of the oldest clubs in France. Les Girondins won their first Ligue 1 trophy in 1950 and 59 years later (2008/2009) they lifted their sixth domestic trophy.
Speaking of the club’s European success, Bordeaux did remarkably well to make it to the Champions League semi-finals in 1985, but despite recording a 2-0 win over star-studded Juventus in the return leg, the French club eventually failed to book their place in the final of the elite competition.
Famous French footballers Alain Giresse and Jean Tigana were part of the team back then and it has to be noted that Giresse is the player who made the most appearances for les Girondins (587). During the nineties Zinedine Zidane, Christophe Dugarry and Bixente Lizarazu played for Bordeaux and, taking everything into account, it is no surprise they are considered one of the most famous French clubs.
Nowadays Les Girondins welcome their rivals at Matmut Atlantique, the stadium which was opened in 2015 and they used to play at Stade Chaban-Delmas in the past.
