Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Sparta Rotterdam and Ajax square off against each other at Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel in the Eredivisie round 3. The Rotterdammers experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 3-2 loss to AZ Alkmaar, and, it is no wonder the bookies see them as big underdogs in Sunday’s clash against the title holders. Even though Maurice Steijn has a full squad to choose from, home win should not be considered.
The reigning champions, on the other hand, rolled over Groningen 6-1 on Matchday 2, meaning that they are high on spirits ahead of the trip to Rotterdam. Since Sparta suit Ajax, we believe that there is a big value in betting on Dusan Tadic and Co. Defender Calvin Bassey is back from suspension. In their last encounter at the venue Ajax defeated Sparta Rotterdam thanks to Tadic’s goal in the first half.
Highlighted Player (Bryan Smeets):
Bryan Smeets is a product of MVV Maastricht football academy who plays for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie. Smeets scored 23 goals in 144 league appearances for MVV before joining De Graafschap in 2015.
After his spell with the Superboeren, the midfielder moved to Cambuur in the 2017/18 season. The following season he joined Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv where he scored 12 goals in 37 appearances in the elite division. Bryan Smeets then decided to return to Netherlands as he joined Sparta Rotterdam in the 2019/20 season. He scored his first goal with De Kasteelheren in a 4-0 win over RKS Waalwijk on September 21, 2019.
His main position is attacking midfielder, but he is used as both central midfielder and right winger as well. Bryan Smeets has a contract with Sparta Rotterdam which should expire on June 30, 2021. He is a two-footed player.
Highlighted Team (Ajax):
Ajax is a Dutch football club that was founded on 18 March, 1900. Ajax are well known for their youth academy, which regarded as one of the best youth football schools in the world. The likes of Johan Cruijff, Edwin van der Sar, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert, Rafael van der Vaart and Marco van Basten are all products of Ajax’s football academy. The Amsterdammers share a big rivalry with Feyenoord and there have always been fireworks when the two teams face each other in De Klassieker.
During the seventies Feyenoord and Ajax were the only two teams who were capable of winning the domestic trophies, while PSV have been playing an important role in Dutch football in the 21st century. PSV and Ajax are regarded as big rivals as well and the two teams square off against each other in De Topper. Ajax play their home games at Amsterdam ArenA, the stadium that was opened on 14 August, 1996. The Amsterdammers won their fourth European Cup (Champions League) trophy in 1995, beating Milan in the title game in Vienna.
