Our prediction for this Europa League match:
Stadion Rajko Mitic will be packed when Crvena zvezda and Monaco go head to head in the Europa League group stages round 1. The Serbian champions suffered a dip in form in the national championship, with the teams sharing the spoils with both Partizan and TSC, and, no doubt, new boss Milos Milojevic is under big pressure ahead of Thursday’s clash. Experienced midfielder Guelor Kanga is widely expected to return to the starting XI, while one of key players Mirko Ivanovic should recover in time to face Monaco.
Les Rouges et Blancs, on the other hand, did well to beat Nice thanks to Breel Embolo’s goal. Monaco aim to kick off the new Ligue 1 campaign in style as well, and given current Crvena zvezda’s form, away triumph should be considered. Both Boadu and Volland have been struggling with injuries of late, while Chile international Maripan is back from a domestic ban.
Highlighted Player (Milan Gajic):
Milan Gajic is a product of OFK Beograd youth academy. The pacey right back, who was born in Vukovar (Croatia) on January 28, 1996 scored four goals in 46 appearances for OFK Beograd from 2013 to 2015 and on July 22, 2015 he signed a five-year deal with Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.
Milan Gajic is a youth international for Serbia and he represented the Eagles at the 2017 European Championship. The Serbs failed to impress at the tournament in Poland, with the team losing to Portugal and Spain in Group B, while sharing the spoils with Macedonia. Gajic was a starter in matches against Portugal and Macedonia, but he missed the Spain clash with injury.
In 2015, though, Milan Gajic did well to win the FIFA U20 World Cup with Serbia as Veljko Paunovic’s men outplayed Brazil in the title game. His main position is right-back (full-back), but he is capable of playing both central and right midfielder. Milan Gajic made 14 appearances for Bordeaux in the 2016/2017 Ligue 1 campaign.
Highlighted Team (Monaco):
Though based in Monaco, Les Rouges et Blances – as they are commonly referred to – play their games in the French football league system. Members of the top tier Ligue 1, Monaco play their home matches at the Stade Louis II in Fontvieille in front of 18,500 people. The Principality club boasts a turbulent history, which saw Monaco reach the highest heights of both domestic and international scene, but also get relegated to the amateur leagues at the very beginnings and to Ligue 2 in 2010-11 season.
The following year AS Monaco were acquired by the Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, whose heavy investments turned the Principality club into one of the biggest spenders in Europe in 2013 and reestablishing its place among Europe’s top clubs.
AS Monaco have had notable European results in the modern football era having been runners-up in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1992 and the UEFA Champions League in 2004. One of the most successful clubs in France AS Monaco have so far won seven league titles and five Coupe de France trophies.
