Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
There will be fireworks when Olympique Lyon and PSG take on each other in the Ligue 1 derby on Sunday evening. Les Gones continue life without Lucas Paqueta, who joined West Ham United, and the Brazil superstar has been sorely missed in recent weeks. Since Lyon failed to impress in back-to-back losses to Lorient (1-3) and Monaco (1-2), we are not tempted to put our money on the underdogs. Goalkeeper Julian Pollersbeck and Jerome Boateng should be the only absentees in the home team.
Les Parisiens, on the other hand, aim to get their job done in the Ligue 1 as soon as possible. Leo Messi and Co. are leading the chase for the domestic trophy, but seeing that Olympique Marseille are breathing down their neck, we are positive that the reigning champions will take advantage of Lyon’s current form. All Keylor Navas, Presnel Kimpembe, and Renato Sanches are out of contention with injuries for the visiting side.
Highlighted Player (Jerome Boateng):
After spending the 2010/2011 season at Manchester City, Jerome Boateng moved to Bayern Munich on 14 July, 2011. The 192-cm-tall defender joined the Bundesliga giants for a fee of €13.5 million and he has been playing for the Bavarians ever since. Despite the fact that his father is Ghanaian, Boateng decided to represent Germany on the international stage.
He has 15 caps for Germany U21 and represented Germany national team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The Bayern Munich defender produced a thrilling performance in the title game, preventing Argentine star Leo Messi from scoring. Boateng won the World Cup trophy with German and it has to be noted that he clinched his fourth Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich in the 2015/2016 season.
In 2013 he helped the mighty Bavarians win the Champions League trophy. Unlike Jerome, his older brother Kevin-Prince Boateng plays for the Ghanaian national team. The Bayern Munich defender has a contract with the Allianz Arena outfit which expires on 30 June, 2012.
Highlighted Team (PSG):
Formed by the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain in 1970, Paris Saint-Germain or as they call it PSG is the most successful club in French football with 31 domestic titles to their name. Having won six Ligue 1 title so far, a record ten Coupes de France, a record six Coupes de la Ligue, six Trophees des Champions and one Ligue 2 title, PSG are also one of only two French clubs to ever win a European title.
Les Parisiens were crowned UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup champions back in 1995-96, while their last European trophy was the 2001 UEFA Intertoto Cup. Beginning of the new millennium was particularly hard for the celebrated club who flirted with relegation in 2000s before they were bought by the Quatar Sports Investments group in 2011 when the rebirth of the Paris Saint-Germain as we know it today began.
Following heavy squad investments and team boosting, PSG won their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years with Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic almost singlehandedly leading his side towards the trophy with 30 goals. Having established domestic dominance, PSG now set their sights on winning the Champions League which remains an elusive dream for the club from Paris.
