Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Saturday’s football game at De Oude Meerdijk pits together Emmen and Ajax, the two teams with completely different ambitions in the 2022/2023 Eredivisie campaign. Emmen’s main goal is to avoid relegation to the Dutch second tier, while Ajax are desperate to defend their trophy. The hosts recorded a morale-boosting win over Fortuna Sittard, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry on Matchday 14. All Ahmed El Messaoudi, Jeff Hardeveld, and Maikel Kieftenbeld are sidelined with injuries, but there are no suspended players in the home team.
The reigning champions, on the other hand, are still recovering from a painful 2-1 loss to PSV, and they are seen as hot favourites to beat the relegation strugglers. Since Ajax outclassed Emmen in each of their previous five meetings in the Eredivisie, we predict that Dusan Tadic and Co. will emerge triumphant in Saturday’s encounter. The good news for the title holders is that defender Edson Alvarez is back from suspension.
Highlighted Player (Steven Bergwijn):
Steven Bergwin is a product of ASC Waterwijk football school, but in 2009 he was spotted by Ajax scouts. In 2011 he moved to PSG and he continued playing for the club’s reserve team at senior level. He made his debut with the senior team on May 20, 2015 in a 2-0 win over Heracles.
Over the years the Dutch footballer born in Amsterdam on October 8, 1997, has established himself as a first-team regular at PSV, earning a call-up for the national team as well. Steven Bergwijn made his Netherlands debut on October 12, 2018 in a 3-0 win over Germany. His main position is left winger, but he is used as both right winger and centre-forward as well.
His preferred foot is right and it has to be noted that his parents are of Suriname descent, he has a dual citizenship. Bergwijn scored 14 goals in 33 appearances for PSV in the 2018/2019 Eredivisie season.
