Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Saturday’s football game at Abbey Stadium pits together Cambridge United and Ipswich Town, the two teams who sit in the opposite halves of the table. Cambridge made a slow start to 2023, with the team collecting only one point in total in the last five league fixtures. There are no fresh injury worries in the home team, but both Lankester and Tracey are pushing for a spot in the starting XI.
The Tractor Boys, on the other hand, desperately needed a win against Morecambe, and they managed to get one in style, with the team keeping their automatic promotion hopes alive. Kieran McKenna is unlikely to make changes to the team that outplayed the Shrimps on Matchday 26. In the first half of the season Ipswich outplayed Cambridge 3-0, and we predict that history is going to repeat itself.
Highlighted Player (Liam O’Neil):
Born in Cambridge, England on July 31, 1993, Liam O’Neil is an English footballer who plays as both defender as midfielder for Cambridge United in the League Two. O’Neil is a product of the Cambridge United football school, but he played for Histon during his youth career as well.
In the summer of 2012 he joined WBA youth academy, and it has to be noted that he made three appearances for the Baggies at senior level in all competitions. Liam O’Neil played for the likes of VPS and Scunthorpe United on loan as well before joining Chesterfield in 2015.
After scoring two goals in 45 appearances for the club in the league, O’Neil moved to Cambridge United in the winter of 2017. As his mother comes from Wales, O’Neil is open to play for the Wales national team, but he has yet to earn a cap with the Dragons.
Highlighted Team (Ipswich):
Ipswich Town are an English football club that was formed in 1878. Portman Road has been the home ground of Ipswich Town since 1894 and the capacity of the venue, which was expanded in 2002, is 30,311. The Tractor Boys compete in the Championship, but they used to play in the English Premier League in the past as well. Ipswich Town last appeared in the elite division in the 2001/2002 season.
Ipswich won the FA Cup in 1978, with the team beating Arsenal (1-0) in the title game. However, the club’s biggest success came in 1981 when they outplayed AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Cup final. It has to be noted that the Tractor Boys have yet to suffer a loss at home ground in the European competitions.
Norwich City are regarded as Ipswich Town’s bitterest rivals and it is well known that the two sides take on each other in the East Anglian derby.
