Our prediction for this DFB Pokal match:
Following yet another disappointing draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich will look to record their first win of the year when they face Mainz at Mewa Arena. Sadio Mane has been sorely missed of late, and, in his absence, a man to watch in the away team will be Leroy Sane, who found the net in the last Bundesliga game, while Manuel Neuer, Leon Goretzka, Noussair Mazraoui, and Lucas Hernandez continue to miss out.
Die Nullfunfer, on the other hand, rolled over Bochum 5-2 in their last league fixture, and seeing that they are tough to beat at home, we are tempted to put our money on draw. The opposition back-line should have Karim Onisiwo at bay as the Austria international scored a hat-trick at the weekend, whereas all Stefan Bell, Robin Zentner, Delano Burgzorg, Jonathan Burkardt, and Marlon Mustapha are out of contention with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Dominik Kohr):
Dominik Kohr is a product of Bayer Leverkusen’s youth school. The German midfielder was born in Tier on 31 January, 1994 and he made eight appearances for the Bundesliga side at senior level. He spent the 2014/2015 season on loan at Augsburg, playing 34 games for the club in the German elite division and his loan was made permanent at the end of the season (18 June, 2015).
He scored his first goal for the club from the penalty spot in a 1-0 win over Wolfsburg. Kohr has four caps for Germany U20 and he played for the U18 and the U19 teams in the past as well. Dominik Kohr is a central midfielder, but he is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder and a centre back as well.
He has a contract with Augsburg which expires on 30 June, 2019. Kohr played 26 games for Augsburg in the 2015/2016 Bundesliga campaign.
Highlighted Team (Bayern Munich):
Over the years Bayern Munich have established themselves as one of the most successful European clubs. The Stern des Sudens (Star of the South) are the dominant force in German football and it has to be noted that the Bavarians clinched their 26th Bundesliga title in 2016. Bayern Munich have won 18 German Cup trophies, while winning the Champions League (European Cup) five times.
The German giants clinched the Intercontinental Cup in 1976 and 2001, while lifting the FIFA Club World Cup trophy in 2013. Bayern Munich was founded in 1900 by eleven football players and their leader was Franz John. The Bavarians host their rivals at Allianz Arena (75,000), the stadium that was built in 2005.
Fellow Bavarian sides TSV 1860 Munchen 1860 and Nurnberg are regarded as Bayern Munich’s fiercest rivals, but the rivalry between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern is big as well. The likes of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Franz Beckenbauer, Lothar Matthaus, Oliver Kahn, Gerd Muller and Giovane Elber are famous footballers who played for Bayern Munich in the past.
