Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
As the new season kicks off, Ajax will be focused on making amends for the disappointing 2022/2023 Eredivisie campaign, and they'll have the opportunity to do so in the opening match against Heracles. The Amsterdammers want to make a flying start to the season and we are positive that they will go all guns blazing at John Lammers’ troops. Captain Dusan Tadic is no longer part of the team as he joined Fenerbahce earlier this season, but summer signing Carlos Forbs is expected to make an immediate impact.
Keep in mind that experienced midfielder Steven Berghuis misses Saturday’s game through suspension. Heracles, on the other hand, experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 3-1 loss to Volendam, which is probably the main reason why we are going to put our money on the title hopefuls. There are no selection worries in the away team ahead of the trip to Amsterdam.
Highlighted Player (Steven Bergwijn):
Steven Bergwin is a product of ASC Waterwijk football school, but in 2009 he was spotted by Ajax scouts. In 2011 he moved to PSG and he continued playing for the club’s reserve team at senior level. He made his debut with the senior team on May 20, 2015 in a 2-0 win over Heracles.
Over the years the Dutch footballer born in Amsterdam on October 8, 1997, has established himself as a first-team regular at PSV, earning a call-up for the national team as well. Steven Bergwijn made his Netherlands debut on October 12, 2018 in a 3-0 win over Germany. His main position is left winger, but he is used as both right winger and centre-forward as well.
His preferred foot is right and it has to be noted that his parents are of Suriname descent, he has a dual citizenship. Bergwijn scored 14 goals in 33 appearances for PSV in the 2018/2019 Eredivisie season.
Highlighted Team (Heracles):
Heracles is a professional Dutch club based in Almelo. The club was formed back in May 1903 and named after Heracles, the demigod son of Zeus. From 1974 to 1998 the club played under the name of SC Heracles ’74. The Heraclieden’s home colours are black and white, while blue is the dominant colour of their away shirt.
Twente are considered one of the club’s main rivals in the Netherlands. Speaking of the club’s achievements, it has to be noted that Heracles have won two Eredivisie trophies (1926/27, 1940/41). In the 2011/12 season they made it to the Dutch Cup final. Heracles faced PSV in the title game, with the Dutch giants proving to be a big catch for the underdogs.
PSV won the game 3-0. In the 2016/17 season Heracles participated in the Europa League, with the team suffering elimination to Arouca in the third qualifying round. Everton is leading the club’s all-time goal-scoring chart with 77 goals.
