Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
After rolling over Almere City 4-1 in their opener, Twente will look to record yet another routine win when they take on Zwolle in round 2. The Reds have been scoring goals for fun in both Eredivisie and Conference League of late and it is no wonder the odds for home win have been dropping. Experienced striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel is pushing for a start, while defender Gijs Smal remains in the recovery room.
The Blauwvingers, on the other hand, made a slow start to the season, with the team losing to Sparta Rotterdam on home soil, and given Twente’s fine form, anything but a routine home win would be a big surprise. In their last meeting at De Grolsch Veste Twente defeated Zwolle thanks to Daan Rots’ goal. As for the visiting side, German forward Lennart Thy is pushing for a spot in the starting XI after scoring as a substitute in the opening match of the season.
Highlighted Team (Twente):
Based in the city of Enschede, Twente is a Dutch football club that welcomes their rivals at De Grolsch Veste. The venue was opened on May 10, 1998, and the capacity of the stadium is 30,205 people. The club was founded in 1965 as a merger of Sportsclub Enschede and Enschedese Boys.
The Reds did remarkably well to win the Eredivisie title in the 2009/10 season, with the team finishing the process only one point clear of Dutch giants Ajax. As a result, Twente booked their place in the Champions League group stages. The Reds did well to collect six points in their group, but that did not help them make it to the last 16.
Twente are well known for their red jerseys, but they wear dark blue shirts when playing on the travels. The Reds take on Heracles Almelo in the Twentse Derby. Sander Boshchker is leading Twente’s all-time goal-scoring chart with 653 goals on his account.
