Our prediction for this League 2 match:
After surviving Peterborough in the EFL Cup last 32, Mansfield will look to return to winning ways when they take on Gillingham in the League Two round 10. The Yellows are undefeated in the new season and, no doubt, they are brimming with confidence ahead of Saturday’s clash. Experienced forward Jordan Bowery returns to the starting XI after coming as a substitute in the EFL Cup triumph as well as attacking midfielder Davis Keillor-Dunn.
The Gills, on the other hand, failed to impress in a 2-1 loss to Doncaster at the weekend, which is yet another reason why we are going to put our money on the in-form visitors. There are no fresh injury worries in the home team, but forward Ashley Nadesan could sneak into the starting XI after coming as a substitute in the last three league matches. In their last meeting at Priestfield Stadium Mansfield defeated Gillingham 2-0.
Highlighted Player (Lucas Akins):
After making his first football steps in Huddersfield Town youth academy, Lucas Akins made his first-team debut against Northampton Town as he came as a substitute to replace Luke Beckett. However, he made no more than five appearances for Huddersfield Town as he was sent on loan to Nortwich Victoria.
After spending two seasons at Hamilton Academical, the winger, who was born on 25 February 1989, joined Tranmere Rovers in July, 2010. Lucas Atkins scored 7 goals in 77 appearances for the club and in 2012 he signed a contract with Stevenage. The English footballer played 77 league games for the Boro and he scored 13 goals for the club.
During the 2013/2014 campaign he was on Burton Albion’s radar and at the end of the season he joined the Pirelli Stadium outfit. Lucas Atkins enjoys playing football, but dancing is considered his passion as well. His main position is right wing, but he plays as both centre forward and left winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Gillingham):
Founded back in 1893, Gillingham FC are an English club that compete in the League One. The Gills are well known for their blue shirts with black stripes, but they wear white shirts with a little yellow and blue, and yellow shirts when playing on the travels.
Priestfield Stadium is the club’s home ground, with the venue holding up to 11,582 spectators. Gillingham City have been playing at the stadium since the club’s foundation. Speaking of the club’s main rivals, over the years the Gills have built up a rivalry to Swindon Town. However, it has to be noted that Swindon fans do not consider Gillingham their biggest rivals.
Former goalkeeper Roy Hillyard is the Gillingham City player with the most appearances. The English shot-stopper played for Gillingham City from 1974 to 1991, making 655 appearances for the club. Brian Yeo is the team’s all-time top scorer, netting 149 goals in 387 appearances for the club from 1963 to 1975.
