Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Lorient and Olympique Marseille take on each other at Stade du Moustoir in the closing match of Sunday’s program. Les Merlus failed to win the previous five league matches and they face yet another difficult task against OM. Fit-again forward Bamba Dieng is pushing for a start after scoring as a substitute in a 1-1 draw with Toulouse, while all Igor Silva, Ayman Kari, Aiyegun Tosin, Loris Mouyokolo, Dembo Sylla, and Quentin Boisgard remain in the treatment room.
The visitors, on the other hand, aim to keep their Champions League hopes alive. Marseille, though, have yet to record on the road this term, which is probably the main reason why we are going to put our money on draw. In their last meeting in the French top flight the two sides played out a goalless draw and we predict that history is going to repeat itself. Iliman Ndiaye is banned for the match, while both Joaquin Correa and Valentin Rongier are sidelined with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Valentin Rongier):
Valentin Rongier is a French footballer, who plays for Ligue 1 side Nantes as a defensive midfielder. Rongier, who was born on December 7, 1994 in Macon (France) scored two goals in 39 appearances for Nantes B from 2013 to 2015 and he made his Ligue 1 debut with Les Canaris on October 18, 2014 in a 1-1 draw with Stade de Reims.
It has to be noted that he replaced Lucas Deaux 15 minutes before the final whistle. Over the years Valentin Rongier has established himself as a first-team regular at Nantes and you should know that he made no less than 31 appearances for the club in the 2016/2017 Ligue 1 campaign.
On June 25, 2015 he extended his deal with the La Beaujoir-Louis Fonteneau outfit and his contract should expire on June 30, 2020. Valentin Rongier’s main position is defensive midfielder, but he is used as a central midfielder as well. His preferred foot is right.
Highlighted Team (Lorient):
Founded back in 1926, Lorient is a French football club that competes in Ligue 1. Les Merlus have yet to win the Ligue 1 trophy, but they did well to go all the way in the Coupe de France in the 2001/02 season. In the title game, Lorient defeated Bastia thanks to Jean-Claude Darcheville’s goal.
The same season les Merlus made it to the Coupe de la Ligue final, but Bordeaux proved to be a big catch (0-3) for them in the title game. Lorient welcome their rivals at Stade du Moustoir, the stadium which can hold up to 16,392 spectators. The colour of the team’s home shirt is orange with a little black on it, while white is the dominant colour of their away jersey. In the 2002/03 season Lorient represented France in European competitions.
Les Merlus, though, failed to impress on their debut in the UEFA Cup as they were beaten by Denizlispor in the round 1 double-header.
