Our prediction for this Copa del Rey match:
Atletico Madrid will be aiming to recover from a heart-breaking loss to Girona when they take on Lugo in the Copa del Rey last 32. Los Rojiblancos have slim chances of winning the La Liga title and, no doubt, they are eager to go all the way in the Spanish Cup. Diego Simeone should rest several first-team regulars, with all Nahuel Molina, Angel Correa, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Memphis Depay pushing for a start. The likes of Thomas Lemar and Pablo Barrios remain in the recovery room.
Lugo, on the other hand, failed to impress in back-to-back losses to Cornella (0-1) and Celta Vigo B (0-1) and we do not believe that they are capable of claiming a major scalp in the Copa del Rey. As for the home side, Quintana Nacho is widely expected to return to the starting XI after coming as a substitute in the last league match.
Highlighted Player (Antoine Griezmann):
Anthony Griezmann is a French forward born on 21st March 1991 in Macon, and he is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting footballers at the moment. The pacey striker started showing his potential shortly after coming through Real Sociedad’s youth academy and he went on to score 46 goals in 179 league appearances for La Real. Excellent displays in Spanish la Liga saw him become a target for a number of top clubs, but he eventually choose to sign for Atletico Madrid, and that proved to be a very good decision.
Griezmann continued the rich vein of form at Vicente Calderon, scoring some important goals as los Colchoneros enjoyed domestic and European success, while also becoming a key member of the France national team.
Playing as a winger or second striker, Griezmann possesses impressive technical skills, he is a strong finisher and still finds time to work hard for his side, so no wonder he is widely regarded as one of the leading forwards on the continent. He won the U19 European Championship with France and is tipped to lead Les Bleus to glory on senior level as well.
Highlighted Team (Lugo):
Based in the autonomous community of Galicia, CD Lugo is a Spanish football club that plays in Segunda Division. Despite being founded back on June 16, 1953, Lugo have never competed in the Spanish top flight. The club’s best result in Segunda division came in the 2016/17 season when they finished 9th.
Los Albivermellos wear red shirts with white stripes when playing at home, whereas white and blue are the dominant colours of the club’s away kit. CD Lugo played their first official game on September 13, 1953, with the team beating Pontevedra 3-1. Ponferradina are seen as the club’s fiercest rivals, with the two teams facing each other in Derbi de los Ancares.
The likes of Samuel Galindo, Serge Leuko, Ivan Zarandona, Ramon Azeez, Angel Guirado, Fabri, Fernando Seoane, Jose Juan, and Diego Lopez are some of the famous footballers who played for the club in the past. Anxo Carro, the stadium with the capacity of 7,070 is the club’s home ground.
