Our prediction for this League 2 match:
Buoyed by a thrilling 5-1 win over Bradford City, Mansfield Town will be aiming to give fans yet another reason to celebrate when they take on Colchester United on Saturday. The league leaders are on the right track to secure automatic promotion, but boss Nigel Clough must warn his men against complacency. Barring any fresh injury worries, the 57-year-old tactician is unlikely to make changes to the team that crushed the Bantams at the weekend.
Meanwhile, the U’s are sitting in the 22nd position in the standings, just above the relegation zone. As Colchester have already suffered 12 defeats on the road this term, we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Mansfield’s party at One Call Stadium. Midfielder Alistair Smith is widely expected to return to Colchester’s starting eleven after coming as a substitute in a 1-1 draw with Walsall at the weekend.
Highlighted Player (Lucas Akins):
After making his first football steps in Huddersfield Town youth academy, Lucas Akins made his first-team debut against Northampton Town as he came as a substitute to replace Luke Beckett. However, he made no more than five appearances for Huddersfield Town as he was sent on loan to Nortwich Victoria.
After spending two seasons at Hamilton Academical, the winger, who was born on 25 February 1989, joined Tranmere Rovers in July, 2010. Lucas Atkins scored 7 goals in 77 appearances for the club and in 2012 he signed a contract with Stevenage. The English footballer played 77 league games for the Boro and he scored 13 goals for the club.
During the 2013/2014 campaign he was on Burton Albion’s radar and at the end of the season he joined the Pirelli Stadium outfit. Lucas Atkins enjoys playing football, but dancing is considered his passion as well. His main position is right wing, but he plays as both centre forward and left winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Colchester):
Founded in 1937, Colchester United are a professional football club that compete in the League Two, the English fourth tier. The U’s welcome their rivals at Colchester Community Stadium, the venue which has the capacity of 10,105 people.
Colchester United are well known for their blue kit, but white is the dominant colour of their away kit. The U’s have an official fans association known as the CUSA. Colchester supporters consider Wycombe Wanderers the club’s fiercest rivals, but the rivalries with Southend United and Ipswich Town are big as well. Colchester United did well to win the FA Trophy in the 1991/92 season, with the team clinching the Essex Senior Cup trophy in the 2009/10 season.
In December 1961 the U’s recorded their biggest win, with the team rolling over Bradford City 9-1 in the Fourth Division. Colchester United repeated the success 44 years later as they hammered Leamington 9-1 in the FA Cup round 1.
