Following a thrilling 3-3 draw with Colorado Rapids, Seattle Sounders will be aiming to return to winning ways when they take on San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday morning. Seattle have been scoring goals for fun of late and they are likely to stick to their attacking style of play against San Jose. A man to keep an eye on in the home team will be midfielder Albert Rusnak, who scored a brace in the last league match, while the likes of Frei, Arriola, Hawkins, and Joao Paulo remain in the treatment room.
San Jose, meanwhile, have failed to win the previous five league matches. The Earthquakes have been struggling defensively in recent weeks and given Seattle’s attacking potential, home win should definitely be considered. The club won the 2016 MLS Cup, with the team beating Toronto FC on penalties in the trophy game at BMO Field. Swiss goalkeeper Stefan Frei won the MVP honor after pulling off several brilliant saves in the 2016 MLS Cup final.
Winning of the MLS Cup is undisputedly the club’s biggest success, but it has to be noted that the Sounders clinched the Supporters’ Shield trophy in 2014. Seattle hold rivalry with Portland Timbers, but Vancouver Whitecaps are regarded as the club’s bitter rivals as well.
Experienced attacker Clint Dempsey is undisputedly the club’s most significant star and he has been playing for the CenturyLink Field outfit since 2014. He scored eight goals in the league in the 2016 season and, no doubt, he helped the Sounders win their first ever MLS Cup.
