Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
Montenegro and Gibraltar face each other in a David-vs-Goliath clash at Stadion Pod Goricom in the 2022 World Cup qualifier. Montenegro proved their worth in their opener, with the team coming from behind to beat Latvia on the road. Stevan Jovetic scored a brace in Wednesday’s clash, meaning that the opposition defenders should keep his at bay. Uros Djurdjevic, who made his Montenegro debut against Latvia, should keep his place up front.
Gibraltar, on the other hand, should once again serve as a cannon fodder for their rivals in the qualifiers for the showpiece tournament. The minnows failed to impress in a 3-0 loss to Norway, and we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Montenegro’s party at Stadion Pod Goricom. It has to be noted that the two national teams have never met before in a competitive match.
Highlighted Player (Nikola Vukcevic):
Nikola Vukcevic is yet another Montenegro footballer who plays for Braga as a midfielder. The 184-cm-tall player was born in Podgorica on 13 December, 1991. Vukcevic began his senior career at his hometown club Buducnost Podgorica and he was part of the team from 2010 to 2013.
The Montenegro footballer scored four goals in 65 league appearances for the club. In 2013 he joined Braga as a free player and he initially played for the reserve team. After making 31 appearances for Braga B he made his debut for the first team against Vitoria, coming from the bench in the stoppage time. Speaking of his international career, Nikola Vukcevic made his Montenegro debut against Ghana on 5 March, 2014 in a friendly game.
The Hrabri sokoli defeated the Black Stars back then. His main position is defensive midfielder, but he plays as a central midfielder and as attacking midfielder as well. Nikola’s contract with Braga expires on 30 June, 2020.
Highlighted Team (Gibraltar):
Gibraltar played their first unofficial match against Jersey in the 1993 Island Games. The Gibraltarians suffered a 2-1 loss to Jersey, but they did well to hold Slovakia to a goalless draw in their first official international match. Gibraltar participated in the 2016 World Cup qualifiers and they were drawn in Group D alongside Germany, Poland, Georgia, Republic of Ireland and Scotland.
They failed to impress on their debut in the World Cup qualifiers and it has to be noted that the minnows suffered a loss in each of their ten group games (goal difference 2:56). Gibraltar recorded their first ever win against Malta on April 6, 2014 and that is considered the team’s biggest success.
Danny Higginbotham, who played for the likes of Manchester United, Southampton, Sunderland, Stoke City and Sheffield United during his professional career, has three caps for Gibraltar national football team and he is considered the greatest player who whore Gibraltar shirt. The Gibraltarians play their home games at Estadio Algarve, speaking of qualifying matches.
