Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
The ground at Lusail Iconic Stadium will shake when Portugal and Uruguay face each other in the Group H round 2. After surviving Ghana (3-2) in their opener, Portugal aim to move one step closer to the knockout stages with a win over Uruguay. Cristiano Ronaldo, who has become the first male player to score at five World Cups, will continue to lead the line for the nominal hosts, while Milan winger Rafael Leao is pushing for a start.
La Celeste, on the other hand, failed to impress in a goalless draw with Ghana, which is probably the main reason why we are going to put our money on Bernardo Silva and Co. Fit-again Valencia striker Edinson Cavani is pushing for a start, while experienced right-back Martin Caceres is one yellow card away from suspension. In their last meeting at the World Cup finals (2018) Uruguay defeated Portugal 2-1, meaning that Fernando Santos’ men are hungry for revenge.
Highlighted Player (Cristiano Ronaldo):
Cristiano Ronaldo is considered one of the world’s best football players. The Portuguese ace was born on 5 February, 1985 in Funchal, Madeira and he played for the likes of Andorinha, Nacional and Sporting during his youth career. CR7 made his Sporting debut in Primeira Liga on 7 October, 2002, scoring two goals in a 3-0 win over Moreirense.
Manchester United scouts spotted him and one year later he joined the Old Trafford outfit. Ronaldo became the most expensive teenager in the history of the Premier League and he received the number 7 shirt. He quickly established himself as the team’s key player and it has to be noted that he won three consecutive Premier League trophies with the Red Devils (2006/2007, 2007/2008, 2008/2009). In 2008 he helped the Old Trafford outfit beat Chelsea in the Champions League final, scoring for Alex Ferguson’s troops in the regular time.
Ronaldo joined Real Madrid in 2009 and he helped the Spanish giants with two Champions League trophies. In 2016 he won the European Championship trophy with Portugal. The Real Madrid ace has two Golden Ball awards (2013, 2014).
Highlighted Team (Uruguay):
La Celeste are one of the most successful South American nations. Uruguay are frequently the champions of the continent having most recently won the tournament in 2011. They have won the Copa America a record 15 times including the first ever edition of the competition in 1916, while the team has also won FIFA World Cup in two occasions including the inaugural competition in 1930 when they defeated Argentina 4-2 in the final as hosts.
Their second World Cup title came in 1950 when Uruguay and Brazil played a legendary match which recorded a higher attendance than any other football match in the history of the game. Uruguay is the smallest country in the world to have won a World Cup by population, but La Celeste are proud of their football heritage which yielded some of the best footballers in the world over the course of history.
Most notable player of the current selection is Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, who is also the team’s top scorer with 45 goals to his name.
