Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
There will be fireworks when Uruguay and Peru face each other at Estadio Centenario in a highly-anticipated World Cup qualifier. La Celeste aim to build on back-to-back wins over Paraguay and Venezuela, and they are likely to go all guns blazing at los Incas. Luis Suarez will be the man to watch despite losing his place in Atletico Madrid’s starting XI, while Edinson Cavani is back from injury.
Both Mauro Arambarri and Nicolas Lopez have been left out of the squad. The Peruvians, on the other hand, aim to stay in top five, but seeing that they often struggle on the travels, we are tempted to put our money on Diego Alonso’s troops. Keep in mind, though, that all Ruidiaz, Guerrero, Costa, Advincula, and Flores are back to contention for the visiting side. Benevento striker Gianluca Lapadula is widely expected to lead the line for Peru.
Highlighted Player (Luis Suarez):
Luis Suarez is a controversial footballer who plays for La Liga side Barcelona as a striker. The Uruguayan forward moved to Europe in 2006, signing a deal with Groningen. After scoring 10 goals in 27 league appearances for the club in the 2006/2007 Eredivisie campaign, he joined Ajax at the end of the season. The prolific striker scored no less than 81 goals in 110 appearances for Ajax and, as a result, Liverpool chiefs decided to sign him on 31 January 2011.
Suarez became the club’s most expensive signing and he was producing thrilling performances with the Anfield outfit between 2011 and 2014. Liverpool were on the verge of winning the 2013/2014 Premier League trophy, but Steven Gerrard slipped in the decider against Chelsea and they eventually finished the season in second place in the standings.
In 2014 Suarez joined Barcelona and he was the top scorer in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign. He won the 2013/2014 Premier League Golden Boot as well and in 2011 he clinched the Copa America trophy with Uruguay.
Highlighted Team (Peru):
Peru national team has been competing at the international stage since 1927 when they played their first ever match against Uruguay. Over the course of their history, La Blanquirroja have formed long-standing rivalries with Chile and Ecuador while 1970s brought the team a worldwide recognition during the period that is to this date considered the most successful in Peruvian football.
Teofilo Cubillas, the team’s top scorer with 26 goals to his name is considered Peru’s greatest player helped the team qualify for three World Cups and win the Copa America in 1975. Peru are the two-time champion of the tournament, who came close to lifting the Copa America trophy again in recent years, finishing third in 2011 and 2015 respectively.
La Blanquirroja are managed by Ricardo Gareca commonly referred to as the Tiger who will lead his team to 2016 Copa America Centenario looking to win Peru its first trophy at a major tournament since 1982.
