Our prediction for this League 2 match:
Grimsby Town will be aiming to put an end to their five-game winless run in the League Two when they host Southend United at their Blundell Park on Matchday 24. The Mariners experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 3-0 loss to Port Vale, with the team dropping to the relegation zone once again. Grimsby are eager to grab something from the relegation six-pointer against Southend, but we do not believe that they are capable of beating the Seasiders, who have been showing signs of improvement of late.
The rock-bottom side recorded a very important win over Barrow at the weekend, and even though veteran defender Greg Halford is banned for the Grimsby Town game, we are tempted to put our money on the visitors, who have been in a fine form in the League Two of late.
Highlighted Player (Sean Scannell):
Sean Scannell is a winger who plays for Huddersfield Town. The Irish footballer is capable of playing up front as well and he began his senior career at Crystal Palace, before penning a three-year contract with Huddersfield Town.
The English player, who was born in Croydon on 17 September 1990, made 25 outings for Huddersfield in the 2015/2016 Championship campaign, scoring one goal for the club. Sean Scannell has 10 caps for Republic of Ireland Under-21 side, but he has yet to make his debut for the senior team. Scannell was named Republic of Ireland Young Player of the Year in 2007, and in 2008 he was Crystal Palace’s Young Player of the Year.
His contract with Huddersfield Town expires on 30 June, 2019 and his highest market value was €1 million back on 8 January, 2009. Sean Scannell started his youth career in Addiscombe Corinthians, but he played for Crystal Palace youth teams as well.
Highlighted Team (Southend):
Nicknamed the Shrimpers, Southend United are a League One club which is located in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. Southend United were founded back in 1906 and have been wearing dark blue shirts and shorts ever since.
The colour of their away shirt is sky blue, with the team wearing black shorts when playing on the travels. Roots Hall is the club’s home ground, the venue which was built in 1952 and opened three years later. The capacity of the stadium is 12,392. Fellow Essex team Colchester United are seen as Southend United’s biggest rivals. The two clubs were in the race for top position in the League One in the 2005/2006 season, with Southend eventually winning the battle.
Southend United recorded their biggest ever win in the 1934/1935 season, with the team rolling over Golders Green 10-1 in the FA Cup. The Shrimpers suffered their biggest defeat in the 1965/1966 season when they were beaten by Brighton 9-1.
